Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon.
...So I was surfing the tv guide, saw Classic Boxing scheduled later today on ESPNc, click info for the fight, it says:
1988 Cruiserweight: Holyfield vs De Leon series.
Cruiserweight: Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon, from April 9, 1988.
True story.

Re: Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon.
LOL poor Carlos. ;D
One of history's most irrelevant landmarks.
Re: Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon.
Even if they did the name right...Who in their right mind would consider Holyfield/DeLeon 'classic' boxing?
Re: Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon.
It's been very clear for a long time that whoever's in charge of ESPNc Classic Boxing doesn't know anything about Boxing. Nothing. Mistakes in the names are just more evidence of a shoddy incompetent operation.
Most of the "Classic Fights" they show are not Classics at all.
There's literally hundreds of fights they could show that are much better than most of the craptastic, less-than-stellar "Classic Fights" they broadcast. Are they trying to lose viewers?!
Seriously, get someone who knows Boxing and knows what were entertaining bouts to select what goes on the air.
For $#!t's sake!!!

Holyfield at cruiser weight was beautiful to watch.

Interestingly enough, Iceman John Scully was commentator for the Holyfield/ De Leon cruiserweight World Championship fight, and Scully made many dead-on comments regarding the then-25 year old Cruiserweight Champ Holyfield.
Scully said Holy could be a successful Heavyweight, but that he should take a few fights at Heavy first before challenging the prime Mike Tyson. Scully really viewed Holyfield as the most viable contender for Tyson's title citing Holy's heart and how Holy would never give up, would go down swinging, etc.
In hindsight, Scully's comments were prophetic. Looking at Holyfield at that time in 1988, I knew he was good, but I didn't think he had any chance of beating Tyson.

you do know that most of the commentating on ESPN Classic fights is re-recorded and not the original commentary right?

Sometimes you can be a serious idiot, dude...
I used to think you were just joking when you act the fool occasionally, but then I realized you weren't acting..
:)

I don't think you even know who Iceman John Scully is...
Re: Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon.
Could be worse i guess, remember when all the aired was the "Superbouts". I swear all the showed was the same 5,6 Leonard, Hearns fights over and over. If they ran out of live guys on a card..roll out good ol Hagler v Hearns. Classic had bookoo variety early on. Managed to catch a few from the Jim Jacobs- bill Clayton collection but they did strip out some original commentary...' sanitized ' it. Those were great gems they brought to light.
Re: Evander Holyfield vs Daniel Ponce de Leon.
There's a show that you can find on our Channel 4, usually about 2 or 3 in the moring called KOTV which has news and highlights from the previous months fights and usually the big fight is between a couple of powerduff South African whateverweights called Imbo Tungonga and Blessings Ndonko.
