What if bruno never rematched tyson..
It was obviously the most money fight for bruno with tyson just coming out of prison and he obviously wanted to avenge his defeat...but couldnt he have just enjoyed the moment a bit more after the mccall win?
Bruno had alot of muscle and was very robotic and took alot of punishment..but how far do you think he would have went if he didnt fight tyson for the second time?
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
If he had not fought Tyson in 96, The Bomber would of been stripped of his alphabet title. Everyone wanted Tyson and Bruno got lucky...;)
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
Yep, whoever wan the title that night Bruno v McCall had to defend against Tyson.
Would have been interesting to see McCall v Tyson. He would have gone the distance and Mike would have got some rounds but seeing McCall in his fight with Bruno and the rematch with Lewis I doubt he wins.
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
He would have missed out on a huge payday and lost the title to somebody else.
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
Knowing Don King and his master plan, he'd arrange to have him stripped and give Tony Tucker his 101st undeserved title fight in a "rematch the public demands" :-X
Bruno did well for himself there. Earned his return payday and certainly didn't go out like a total wet noodle like Tyson's next challenge for a trinket.
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
Well obviously Tyson would only have one win against Bruno if he hadn't rematched him .
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
He might have been able to fiddle a defence or two but the reality is he needed McCall to hand it to him on a silver platter. It wouldn't have taken much for someone to take it away again.
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
bruno was the best HW in history
Tyson just caught him in the right place at the right time on 2 occasions and turned out to be his bogey man, everybody has them
if he hadnt have rematched tyson when he did he would have had a couple more fights unifying the belts and then he would have retired

;D Bruno was very lucky to have been in a position to become a champion and rematch Tyson. He barely made it out of the last round against McCall; who had been asleep for most of their fight. Had he not fought Tyson he would've either had a couple of soft defences for less money, been stripped, or had to fight Holyfield or something. Truthfully though, it would have still been fun to see him take on say Tommy Morrisson or Ruddock, maybe and old Foreman. I think he'd have gotten KO'ed by all 3 but he also had a chance.

30 odd fights 30 odd knockouts, beating up lewis for several rounds, winning against witherspoon and bonecrusher in his only other defeats
call that lucky do you?
bruno won the world title on his 4th attempt, with all attempts being very well deserved
what a fighter bruno was, he would have been a great addition to any era
on paper he would have KOed Morrison and Ruddock
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
Ok, I'm not biting for the record:p He was lucky that he had a chance to fight McCall for the world title when he did, and imo lucky that McCall didn't show much life in that fight until the last round or two. He was also in no way ahead against Witherspoon before being stopped if I remember. Had he done anything to earn the shot at McCall since losing to Lewis? He was obviously a big draw and that's great, but he would have never had a prayer of staying champion for long.

so you are saying he caught mccall at a good time not that he was lucky to get a title fight?
he was winning against witherspoon after about 8, he was probably still ahead at the time of the KO although witherspoon was on top and would have taken a decision
he was also winning against lewis and bonecrusher , against bonecrusher he was probably 8-1 up
he was winning against mccall not because mccall was having an off day but because bruno over 8 rounds was just a better fighter, its a pity 8 rounds was just about his limit and is the only reason mccall had a good last 2
just as bonecrusher did and just as witherspoon came into their fight after 8
Bruno is one of the most loved fighters in history in britain and he is also one of the most underrated, mainly because the only fights most people saw were the ones he was losing to top world champions
Re: What if bruno never rematched tyson..
Bruno would have KOED both fury and Haye in the same night.
