Pacquiao The Merciful.. he didnt KO Rios out of compassion
With the win in the bag, Filipino ring legend Manny Pacquiao says he eased up on Brandon Rios late in the fight. “In the last round I didn’t want to get careless so I backed off a little bit and gave him a chance to finish. I didn’t do that because I’m tired or anything. I did it because boxing isn’t about killing each other. Boxing is about entertaining people. And I think through twelve rounds people were satisfied with my performance. Why be careless like the last fight with Marquez?”
Trainer Freddie Roach stated, “Manny did take it easy in the last round. I feel he didn’t step on the gas pedal. I think he could have finished Rios, but he told me there was no sense in beating him up anymore. He beat him every round.”

What's your take on this. Is this a Floyd my hand hurt excuse. I did think Manny would want this to go deep into the fight to showcase his skills but that was just a thought I had before the fight. My linked scrapped out and I wasn't able to see most of the fight. I'm a Pactard but I often wonder about the I went easy talk

HE didn't go in for the kill in the last round, but he didn't just pot shot and run like Floyd does in the 12th. pac landed a few more shots, but nothing with ill intent

Manny is a genuine nice and ive seen him let off the gas more than a few times.. he did it against margarito, mosley ( after mosley kept touching gloves and making silent agreements like a pansy) and now rios.. I dont believe he's making any excuses. He could have easily put rios out of misery if he wanted to..
Pacquaio is like Maximus from The Gladiator..
Re: Pacquiao The Merciful.. he didnt KO Rios out of compassion
If that's where his mind is in the late rounds he may need to start looking for a exit strategy. Didn't work to well against Bradley or impress the crooked judges.

*Rios wasn't going anywhere, regardless of what Pac said did... kudos for Rios for fighting at 147 against a very good Pac in his backyard ,in a statement fight..and not getting ko'ed.

Evander was never 'let off' late in a fight, and sure as Hell never acted like he was just happy to be there to last.
Re: Pacquiao The Merciful.. he didnt KO Rios out of compassion
I thought that was the case actually. Whether Rios might have survived anyways, they did touch gloves several times during the 12th and it looked like a little agreement to ride it out. Manny was reluctant to sit down on his punches the whole fight, but Rios was really there to be taken out by the end and seemed to know it. Don't think it speaks one way or another for Pacquiao, he's done it before and he'll always fight with fire when he has to.
Re: Pacquiao The Merciful.. he didnt KO Rios out of compassion
I noticed the reluctance to go for the stoppage, probably because of the killed KO he suffered.
But hey, Floyd doesn't knock people out either.
