Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
Would Steward have been a good fit for Khan, with his speed and suspect chin? Steward has a history of training fighters with weak chins, such as Wlad and Hearns. He trained Wlad, who also had/has a glass jaw, and he has some of the best defense of any boxer today.
Re: Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
I like the question, Steward had a reputation for turning talented fighters with weak chins into better defensive fighters. But didn't a lot of what he do rely on the size of the fighter?

Yeah it's hard to tell. Obviously he was masterful at crafting great HW's in that style, but who knows how it would have worked at 140.
Re: Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
Manny did well with a few guys who were not super tall and lanky. De la Hoya used him, Holyfield used him.
I think Khan's best fit was Roach to be honest
Re: Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
Manny would have been perfect for Khan and I think he would have chosen him but probably heard about the illness and chose his current trainer.
Re: Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
steward liked to train those tall lanky fighters with a good right hand. He did well with guys like that; he pretty much spun his wheels otherwise. He made a mess of DeLa Hoya.

yes he does, the hug
Re: Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
Khan made money, went to america and was never the same, lack of dedication or passion, did he reach his limit.
A trainer does not make a boxers heart.
Re: Emanuel Steward and Amir Khan.
For a few months maybe. The chinny fighters that Manny has trained had one thing in common, they came to value listening over getting knocked the eff out again. Khan's problem is he doesn't listen to his trainers. He's got a habit of getting into slugfests he should be nowhere near. His hoppy kangaroo style is a lot harder to pull off on jelly legs. Heart just means you take more of a beating if you can't learn to fight smart. You can have the best trainer in the world but it doesn't amount to squat if you don't listen to him.
There are a lot of instances where a great coach and a lesser coach would give a fighter the same advice because, its fundamental (don't slug with a slugger; circle away from the power hand; don't go straight back; don't bring back your jab low; use your angles). The difference is the great coach has a reputation and a large enough cut of your paycheck that says you cant afford not to listen to him.

With Wlad, yes. He taught Wlad techniques to keep his chin out of harm's way. Using his height, the reach of his arms, keeping the distance.... all the things Wlad would forget pre-Manny. Not sure it translates well to Khan.

He helped Lennox Lewis as well.
