Khan's speed and accuracy...
... has anyone even considered Khan has a chance based on that?
Khan's losses came as a result of him getting bombed out of this atmosphere, but in the fight with Breidis Prescott we knew he was going to win on points if it went the distance.
The fight against Danny Garcia, he was winning it easily until he got bombed out and just could not recover.
Mayweather is by no means a bomber at this stage of his career. Mayweather can stun you, he can sure push you back and land shots, but he is not a bomber, one shot knock out kinda fighter.
I think it all depends on Khan and whether or not he wants this fight-wants it in terms of knowing and understanding that he can take a Mayweather punch and survive to land a few more shots of his own.
Khan has a chance. The chance is his accuracy. He is just as good as anyone in the division in terms of punch accuracy. His power is better than Mayweather's. His speed is slightly better than Mayweather's. Where Khan falls off is his chin and after the chin, his stamina and will to win erodes and he loses rounds and fights as a result.
Make no mistake: Khan has a chance. If Khan sticks to what Khan does best, Khan can win this fight.
If I were in the Khan camp, there are three things I would be working on: Speed, Accuracy AND mental fortitude on how to stay in the pocket when Mayweather stuns you with a shot you won't see coming. And, as we know Money Mayweather, he will tag you with shots you almost certainly won't see coming...
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
power is nothing when you can't hit your opponent.
glass jaws get smashed by quick counterpunchers.
khan has no chance.
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
You brought up some valid points. Khans speed and accuracy are superb. When he is on the money he is fun to watch. That being said his impressive attributes won't translate into a win against Floyd. As far as accuracy go's Floyd is at the top of the heap. I can't say what will beat Floyd but I doubt it would be Khan.
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
The problem is not in Mayweather's pure punching power, but in the speed, quality and accuracy of his punches.
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
His speed and accuracy are top notch but when you dont have the chin/punch resistance to compliment those qualities, shit becomes less relevant..
Its kind of like Jhonny Gonzalez for instance.. he has many weapons in his arsenal and his offensive ability is superb but he's been let down numerous times because he didnt have the resistance to take as much as he dished out...
Guys like gonzalez and khan are both blessed and cursed because their exceptional offensive game allows them to stay ahead in the race but soon as they get hit with something big, the lead they built comes to a halt..
Khan, jhonny gonzalez, and terry norris have these traits..
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
Speed doesn't matter much hen guys know how to fight- floyd won't care much about speed.
Why do you think Khan is an accurate puncher? Why do you say that?
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
Khan is alright but honestly I think Broner would punch out Khan, let alone Mayweather!
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
Khan has loads of raw speed, but he's not really an accurate puncher at all, at least in the context of a competitive fight he isn't. If anything given how naturally talented he is his accuracy is quite poor, along with his balance. If you listen to some people he's this masterful boxer whose only downfall is his chin, as if dropping a decision to Lamont Peterson doesn't refute that slightly:p. He's lost his fights because he gets caught with big punches he doesn't see repeatedly and then keeps fighting the same way, great boxers don't tend to do that.
Now granted his chin is poor and seems to have gotten even worse; but that aside, he fights so tense, reaches with his jab, backs straight up with his hands down, panics as soon as he's felt a punch and tries to brawl his way out of it every time. There are so many things he does which would get him killed against Mayweather it's frankly hilarious that people consider him the biggest threat because he's fast.
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
Khan is world class when on the attack but his defence is terrible. Khan might look like he's in the fight for 4 or 5 rounds because he'll likely be beating Floyd on activity early on but then Floyd will catch him and stop him. Khan always starts fast and fades later. The Maidana & Peterson fights in particular are evidence of this. Floyd generally lets fighters like this have a couple of rounds before he starts picking them off. No way does Khan win this fight.
Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
I'd say the most accurate thing I've seen Khan do was throw a left and right hook to the body against Maidana. The majority of the time for me, Khan just "throws" quick combinations, without the ability to set punches up. He throws those quick combinations whether there is an opening for the punch to land or not. Thats why for me Khan hits a hell of a lot of Glove. He's not smart enough to be accurate like mayweather. Mayweather sets everything up like a Magician, and is almost certain each punch is going to land well. On fight night, we'll see how accurate Khan is. Thats if they actually fight. I'll bet the there is no contest what so ever regarding punch accuracy when the stats roll out round by round.

Re: Khan's speed and accuracy...
True, but Floyd has never made it past the 2nd round against anyone named Amir as a pro. He's also never scored a KO against a Pakistani, or looked impressive against anyone that lost to Breidis Prescott beforehand. Add Khans speed to the mix and it might all be to much to soon, I think Floyd needs a few more fights before he's ready.
