Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
What mistakes would you say Khan makes in his style? I think he's too predictable. Just looking at his fight with Garcia, he kept throwing 1-2s. Also, his punches are sloppy. The replay for the third round showed that he threw a combination, and his right hand missed wildly, which allowed Garcia to throw a counter left hook over his shoulder and knock him down.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
The two main points for me are he falls into attacks and he's too mechanical. He doesnt need to do either to be honest because he's so ridiculously fast. He doesnt need to start punching from ten feet away and he doesnt need to be in roboto 1...2 mode the whole time. Both have been masked in the amateur game because the threat of being sparked the fuck out is greatly reduced. If that threat could be removed (it cant I know) in the pro game the fucker would be almost unbeatable, it'd take supreme skill to beat him.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
He needs to be more disciplined in all aspects of his life from his training to when he steps into a ring. He's got bags of ability but also clear flaws, which I suppose makes him so good to watch.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
His biggest problems imo are his balance and that he doesn't gauge or control distance well at all. Falling into attacks is a good way to put it, he often reaches with his jab when he isn't even in punching range, and winds up with all his weight forward and hands down. If he could have been more patient, developed his jab as a weapon and not just trying to set up the right with it, learned to counter better, then he would have been hard to beat. As it stands I think chin aside his ability is way overrated by some.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
In his last fight he got hurt when he got reckless and left himself wide open when he did not have to. He is a knock out waiting to happen.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
As imp said he tries too hard to impress. This over eagerness leads to mistakes.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
Getting smashed on the chin with flush bombs.
He'd be tough to beat if he had a better chin.

Haha. Thing is that he puts himself in position to get blasted with these shots in the first place though, it's hard to separate his chin from his whole style of fighting in that sense. If he could take a good punch it's unlikely that he'd have the same approach of course, however he fights as though he can right until he gets hit. Nobody at the weight can afford to take flush left hooks from Garcia for instance, even Matthyse could have gotten hurt bad if he didn't see them coming whatsoever.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
The biggest mistake he makes is getting in the ring thinking he doesn't have a glass jaw.
Re: Mistakes Amir Khan makes.
He has poor footwork.. His upperbody movement, his punching, isn't in sync with his footwork.
That's why he falls into these akward positions and gets caught with punches that good fighters dont get hit with..

Its 90% going to be khan as the next floyd opponent and he has all the speed in the world but if diaz can touch him im sure floyd can.
I chuckled a tad because that is exactly how he leaves the pocket at crucial times while standing straight up with his lead hand low. He has these mental farts. Add that to what @Memphis and @p4pking and it suggest a pretty serious focus problem.
