Jack Dempsey's drop step vs modern footwork.... Grey not so old..........

Ok in Dempseys book he teaches you to put all your weight on the front foot then to launch the front foot forwards without transferring your weight back to your rear foot first, when you do this you get a ton of linear force as you are automatically launched forward off your rear foot as you fall.

This is awesome but what if you keep most of your weight on the rear foot as your natural boxing stance?

Also even when you slide the foot forward and bring the rear foot with you again by sliding it up, this drop step still has the tendency to heavily put all your weight on the front leg, meaning you cant follow up with a powerful rear cross punch.

Also greynotsoold told me to combine the drop step with the modern foot work of sliding your feet forward except you just slide your feet with heaviness/ that dropping energy (aka gravity) with each slide forward and back etc.

The problem I found with this is the power generation of this method isnt as powerful as with teh way Jack Dempsey does it and it also still tends to front load the front foot meaning your rear cross follow up punch is made weaker.

How can I best resolve these problems?

I spent several years trying to master Jack Dempseys 'step punch' as they use to call it. The trainer who taught me back in the late 50's had fought bare knuckle and had also fought Dempsey. I can tell ou that the punch is pure power if delivered correctly, but it take perfect timing in when to deliver and if you are not careful, it will pull you off balance and leave you open. If you can, get some old videos of Dempsey and play them. Dempsey was one of my all time favorite boxers. In later years at age 70, two men attempted to rob him on the street and Dempsey knocked both of them out with single punches.
