Chinese preparing for war with Japan

China is stepping up its training for a "short, sharp war" designed to seize the disputed Senkaku islands from Japan, according to the head of US naval intelligence in the Pacific.

Addressing a conference sponsored by the US Naval Institute in San Diego, California, Captain James Fannell said the recent Missing Action 2013 exercises were training for the invasion of the uninhabited archipelago, which China claims as its sovereign territory and refers to as the Diaoyutai Islands.

"We concluded that the [People's Liberation Army] has been given the new task to be able to conduct a short, sharp war to destroy Japanese forces in the East China Sea, following with what can only be expected as the seizure of the Senkakus or even a southern Ryukyu island," said Capt. Fannell, director of intelligence for the US Pacific Fleet.

Short, sharp war...its still war.

They sailed three Chinese war ships in between Australia and Indonesia a week or so ago.
They are allowed to do so in those international waters, but its still a clear message to us all.

These nations are pumping up the nationalism as their economies are both on the verge of tanking. They have to divert attention and blind nationalism always works. Think Thatcher and the Falklands. Japan has run trade deficits month after month and is broke, Chinese local government has wasted lots of money and exports are down.

I don't think war is likely, but the financial war will suck everyone in.

Sometimes I fear the US government needs to do all it can to prop up an enemy. I'm not saying we shouldn't be alarmed by China but even if we shouldn't be America needs to justify our crazy expenditures on defense.

There is no such thing as short-sharp war. Pretty sure Rumsfield tried that microwave quick & lean bs and it blew up in his face. China can wag its feathers all it wants but thats all it will be at least on a military front.

I hope you are right, it is ridiculous reason to start a war. Go to the UN and discuss the issues through diplomats.

The US owns the Pacific. We took out Japan which had NEVER been done before. Japan can still whip Russia and China.... if the US decides to unleash them.


Also I don't know if it's come up before but Obama sucks

china will maul anybody. YOu can wiupe out 300 million, 400 million even half a billion of them and they can still swarm over alll of america and europe combined.l,. They are numberless.

You have a point there. Oddly, China just recently started putting Aircraft carriers in the water. They are definitely ramping up their military but I don't know if they can yet be classified as a global superpower. I think they are a regional power with global implications. This will not always be the case.

Look at the hundreds of thousands america killed during hirosima and etc. (experiment)

Japan will never forgot that.

I take it everyone has nuclear capability now?!

Very true, China's economy is essentially a bubble waiting to burst. The only way they can maintain it is if the people of China indulge in consumerism which isn't likely due to no one having any dispoibal income. A war would be a great way to kick start the economy due to investment in industry and the man power required.

as for China's economy they have a bubble ready to burst which is their population their "baby boomers" as it were are older then hours and the younger generations don't have enough manpower to look after those people whether it is in a financial situation or a health care situation it just can't happen the numbers don't add up
