Manny Pacquiao is great for the sport of boxing!
It seems to me that just about every casual sports fan on the planet knows who Manny Pacquiao is!
I remember when some people called De La Hoya vs. Mayweather "the fight to save boxing", but I felt that was ridiculous, since I could hardly stay awake watching it...
But most people who saw Manny Pacquiao fight Oscar were impressed! It left an impression in their minds, something like "this is someone I want to watch again".
People who are not serious boxing fans, in the same sense as we on the boxing forums are, they are ALWAYS interested in Manny and want to know when his next fight is!

Like him or not, Manny is great for the sport of boxing. As you say, casual fans know about Manny, and look forward to his fights. The heavyweight division certainly isn't getting anyone excited these days, and hasn't for a looooong time. "Boy-next-door" American fighters are few and far between nowadays. Floyd certainly isn't as universally liked as Manny. So Manny sort of fills in that void. And in that sense, he's good for boxing.

manny is a true role model. a humanitarian and a good guy. exactly how a superstar should be!!

Pac Man is more exciting than Floyd for sure but he is not a better fighter sadly.

Manny was an ATG fighter and one of the most exciting, dynamic fighters since Mike Tyson.
Boxing would be in a lot better shape if it had a few more Pacquiao's.
