Abraham Lincoln's amazing quote, 1864
"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow like never before in history, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless."
-- U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864
(letter to Col. William F. Elkins)

Corruption in the USA is nothing new, it was corrupt since the beginning.
What do you expect when a bunch of immigrants build their Colony, whoops, Country on the genocide of the indigenous people and on the slavery of the black people while publicly espousing words like "Freedom and liberty" and "all men are created equal"?!

I have always thought this. America was built on the murder of 20 millions American Indians. and Theft. And slavery. And hypocrisy. And hegemony.
A few more years, its nostrils will be sinking under the surface of the water.
Re: Abraham Lincoln's amazing quote, 1864
It is a good quote and sums up how the war machine (both external and internal) leads to ridiculous levels of money being taken from ordinary people to fund different departments that grow like tumours. The end result is cronyism, a bankrupt state, and a terribly abused populace. Just take the US prison population as an example. It is privately run and they get more money for locking up more people. There is no good that can come of a system like this. A report recently looked at data from 1980 to 2002 and concluded that the US is an oligarchy. If it was an oligarchy then, then what on earth has it become today? Is this the kind of world that we want? We have so much capacity for good, so why on earth do we have to scorch ourselves for the benefit of this handful of people who really do seem to hate humanity.

Honest Abe has an excellent reputation but he has some hints of corruption and abuse of power in his day. I have read a lot of Abe and his writings, my favorite being his letter to Mrs Bixbie.
Re: Abraham Lincoln's amazing quote, 1864
It is worse today than ever before. The rich should make as much as they want. I only ask that they not rape me to get it. If you cats in Europe want to be like America. Then prepare to get fucked over big time. You can say hello to low wage back breaking work. Lincoln was a great man and President. He would shit if he saw what is going on today. Now everyone is a slave.
Re: Abraham Lincoln's amazing quote, 1864
I watched the Company Men which is a story that centres on a year in the life of three men trying to survive a round of corporate downsizing at a major company - and how that affects them, their families, and their communities. The manufacturing industry is screwed by the few ultra rich making massive money at the expense of the working man who mean nothing.
Re: Abraham Lincoln's amazing quote, 1864
Thats what happens when the ideology of a country if shamelessly capitalist. Corporations are bound to take over and give obscene power to a very few percentage of the population.
