Gatti vs. Ward 1... what did we really think before the fight?
I actually had a chance to watch the fight, but switched the channel. No one expected it to be a barn burner... NO ONE.
I had to hear about the "War" the day afterwards, by accident, on this very same page. lolololol.....
I wasn't expecting fireworks at all. Sorta like when a home crowd leaves a basketball game early with their team down by 8 points with about a minute left in the game... next thing you know, some dude off the bench hits a three, gets a steal, gets fouled on another three point shot he made, hits one free-throw and then intentionally misses the second, gets his own rebound and scores another two points (now up 1 point) ... and then dashes back down on defense with under 20 seconds to go in the game and then makes a tremendous block/steal on a driving opponent and then holds the ball until the clock runs out.
But, idiot you, who had a chance to see it all, left the game early because you felt your team couldn't do it- let alone some dude, who barely plays at all, was able to do it for you with only one minute to do it in.
LOLOL....
That taught me that in boxing, expect the unexpected. Gatti/Ward did... no matter how boring you feel the match up would be, if you are a REAL FAN, stay tuned and see it unwrap itself. You just never know!!

Green enough to not know who Gatti was other than when I saw him knock Joey Gamache's head clean off.... ahahahhahaha.....
Re: Gatti vs. Ward 1... what did we really think before the fight?
I definitely didn't even watch boxing yet, but I'd imagine the hardcore fans would've known it would likely be a war. Ward was coming off another crazy FOTY with Augustus(which he was very lucky to win), and then was unlucky against Leija, who I thought took an easy out. Going on that form you could have assumed he and Gatti would match up like that.
Re: Gatti vs. Ward 1... what did we really think before the fight?
We were thinking Gatti was a used up warrior looking to rebound for more bouts vs contenders and Ward was a used up journeyman. It was just supposed to be a simple great action fight that to show well Gatti should have KO'd Ward mid to late or just walked in a UD.
Re: Gatti vs. Ward 1... what did we really think before the fight?
Not to sound like a boxing snob but gattI-ward was not a figjt that got me excited when it got signed...
Gatti series I watched it one time and forgot about it.. im not into club fighters throwing mindless punches..
The fight was forgettable..
Re: Gatti vs. Ward 1... what did we really think before the fight?
This one had to be a war going in. I honestly thought Ward was going to knock him out prior.

That fight and round was not forgettable. It was the total opposite. Referees should let fights go on more.

The sloppy time keeper and the easy going ref just added to the excitement.... didn't we have about three shortened rounds? lololol....

Im not excited by free swinging brawls and im certainly not impressed by a fighter's ability to take punishment..
We dont call it the sweet science for nothing and I love boxing because its an art.. its an artistic way of fighting.
To each is own bruh.. gatti-ward does nothing for me.. to me, a fight like Marquez-Barrera shits all over it..

Actually Barrera v Marquez was not that great but Morales v Barrera is the best fight I have seen live.
