Chavez has a big enough name that he could just tell Bob to piss up a rope. This shit is nothing short of extortion. He could just operate as a free agent like Cotto. Top Rank does not make Jr a cash cow. He can take that show on the road w/o slippery Bob.
I'm still shocked that Ward lost his case but then again Goossen has something signed. They must have closed the loop holes that both Oscar and Floyd used to get out of their contracts. Or maybe Ward offered Goossen no cash to buy it out. I'd love to see the arguments that were presented in court.

Theres no federal boxing organization that could govern in situations like this. The promoters take advantage of the situation because as much as I hate to say it... half of the fighters are stupid and the other half don't care. Fighters are thinking about money and women and a lavish lifestyle rather than treating it like any other profession. Noone wants to be concerned with the bottom line and payouts to the team, management and other things like sanctioning fees. They put their trust in the wrong people and those people rob them blind. The lesson from this is to be more responsible with your money and more importantly, your health.
Of course rather than lobby for an overall commission and have a union that would be the equivalent of a players organization in other sports that could defend issues relating to the boxers health and welfare, the fighters choose to follow the richest SOB in the sport hoping to make their own high stakes money grab. So they start jumping networks, suing to get out of contracts, holding out, nickel and diming and trying to make up their own rules. They come up with suspicious conditions. "Oh, I have a career ending neurological brain injury that mysteriously disappeared once my contractual obligations were negated in court"
The latest thing now is the fighter/promotion thing that has the sport cannibalizing itself. Rather than make the game better and preserve the sport for years to come, let me exploit other young fighters and make money off exploiting them so i'll always have money coming in. It's every fighters responsibility to protect themselves from being ripped off by the money hungry sharks, but it should be biggest names in the sport that are looking out for everyone, rather than just claiming to when they beef about the padding in gloves or drug tests. Its just unfortunate that many fighters don't have more than a high school diploma and noone to fight for them or looking out for their interest without a cut of the profits. It goes without saying that managers and promoters will protect a fighter because it means protecting their own financial interests as well. Until one day, that fighter is no longer great, no longer fast, no longer draws a crowd and then promoter cashes them out, bleeding them dry of every last bit of fame and fortune they had left.
It's sounds crazy for a 50-70 year old man that sits on his @$$ all day, talking on a telephone with a gut that's as soft as cookie dough to defeat and take everything of a man who trains every day for months at a time, sweating and bleeding the life of a warrior and turning his body into a lethal weapon but its been happening in boxing since the beginning. Just my 2 cents.

Damn, you put that well using the cannibalism reference. Bad Blood will not facilitate great fights . I am not close to understanding the business side of Boxing but it took baseball, hockey and football a long time to recover after they had ugly owner player battles

exactly, he has his dad to thank for the ratings he gets, simply put he could take his show on the road and have his dad promote him

I'm not a big JCC Jr fan, but good for him for standing up to Arum.
More fighters should be standing up to these greedy promoters who are locking these guys up in ridiculous contracts and giving them small fractions of the revenue they are generating.
And these scum bag promoters will play the fans against them, he'll claim JCC Jr is being unreasonable and greedy and that's why the fight isn't happening, or he'll claim that JCC is scared and ducking, and slander his name.
Fans need to not buy that nonsense and support the fighters in their struggles to get the money they actually deserve. JCC Jr isn't the greatest fighter but he draws in a FUCK LOAD of money, much more money than a lot of fighters who are much better than him do, and he needs to be compensated fairly for that.

Dude if boxers went by the pay model in ufc they would be more fucked ufc way under paid. I don't think it's a great system now but most boxers on the higher end make a lot more money then ufc. I don't think having a monopoly would really help the fighters because then they have no options at all really.
