You know its really quite funny
I don't even like Khan but boxing forums are so freakin negative these days that people cant even see a good performance. Instead they shit on the opponent. When that fails the pretzel logic test it then becomes a chin issue. However when its someone they like it was a master performance with little concern over the opponent. Nothing was up with Floyd to those that hate him and it was a masterful performance by Maidana but all of a sudden Collazo is washed up and Khan still sucks and has a paper chin even though he took bombs from Maidana and beat him. Oh but its Ray Arcel reborn through Garcia and he's a totally different fighter.
Hilarious.

People have to realize that it's not amateur boxing. Holding, even though it's against the rules technically, has always been accepted to a certain degree in the pros.
Khan fought a guy who is a NOTORIOUS spoiler and NOTORIOUSLY hard to look good against, and he dominated and looked good against him.
It was a solid test for Khan at his new weight division and he passed with flying colors. He deserves respect for that.

Agreed, if Khan wins his opponent was shit, if he losses everyone says "Collazo was always going to KO him".
Re: You know its really quite funny
Ignore fickle fans and point out their own contradictions. The hate that Khan gets make me a fan of his even when I am not.
Re: You know its really quite funny
I don't hate the guy, but when someone says that a fight is a one sided drubbing, that was not expected... I tend to look at both fighter's performances. It's just makes sense for me. I've seen a lot of improvements for khan, in footwork and a reduction in reckless brawling..without sacrificing hand speed and that's great. I can't just close the book because collazo was not the callazo he typically was before. Its not because of khans style that collazo starting looking to bomb khan out (when he's not even known a puncher) nor was its khans hand speed that caused collazo to drop his hands like a moron. If anything the old collazo would have kept his hands up more and shoulders and few of those and tried to counter.
If you have a pitcher with 125mph fastball and he strikes someone out. You wouldn't be surprised at any name being that batters name. But if you have a guy with 70mph fastball and he pitches a no hitter.... you'd want to know what team he was playing... Its nothing against Khan. you cant blame him for Collazo being an idiot. however it does detract from his victory to a have a previous slick fighter all of sudden follow him around the ring like a punching bag. Thats just me though, i'm known for being cynical.
Re: You know its really quite funny
i agree. i think that its hard for people to admit that somebody just had a good performance. khan obviously destroyed collazo and he didnt do much wrong during the fight. you cant really expect much more out of his performance.
Re: You know its really quite funny
I have always been of Khan the fighter rather than Khan the man who can be verbally very clumsy, cringe worthy and hypocritical. He has a bit of growing up to do but in the ring the guy turns up to fight every time. The ridiculous notion posted by someone here that he is a pot shotting coward reveals a lot more about the poster and a lot less about the boxer. I can respect and understand other people's frustration with what at times seems like excessive holding but you can not highlight that whilst ignoring the borderline tactics employed by his opponents or the good work that he does in throwing great combinations and knowing when to try and close the show. On Saturday he repeatedly landed some textbook punches and did his best when Collazo was hurt to try and wind it up and finish his opponent. Khan has his vulnerabilities and he is droppable so he will always have people on the edge of their seat but it is not his fault if he chooses to play to his strengths and win fights rather than go toe to toe and suffer consecutive TKO's. For some people a Khan win will always be a disappointment however it is achieved.
Re: You know its really quite funny
I think I'm one of the guilty. One factor with this fight is I never payed attention to Collazo and I assumed he was the type of fighter I saw Saturday which was horrible. That would be my shortcoming. I like Khan a lot more since he stopped that ridiculous showboating stuff that I think pissed Roach off at the time. Some fighters can pull that off but and make it cool but I never thought Khan did. Paulie was one who could make it look good.
Bottom line, the Saturday fight highlighted Khans talent and that hand speed is amazing. I guess I need make sure I familiarize myself with the whole fight, not just the fighter.
Re: You know its really quite funny
Fans of fighters have been getting a bit too caught up in their fighters to the point where you can't even give constructive criticism without being called a "hater" and some fans simply will not allow you to like a fighter which is fucking stupid.
Sure I understand how that happens but if you can't use reason or logic to back up your approval or disapproval of a fighter/a fighter's style then you're just a fan boy or a hater...simple as that.
