I've watched this a few times before and I just watched it again. I absolutely hated Hamed like no other in his day. But when he was on a talk show or whatever he would make me laugh. Still to this day when I watch these documentaries about him I can't figure out if he's living the character as a bit of Andy Kaufman or if he really is the worst person ever. Either way he is entertaining while insufferable.
hamed was fantastic
where are those charactors in boxing now, there seemed to be one after another back then
Hamed for me remains a sad story of unfulfilled potential. With that much raw talent he could have gone so much further. Only Michael Nunn makes me sadder.
I mean, the Barrera loss wasn't so brutal that he couldn't have recovered. A few adjustments, like emphasizing his speed advantage and keeping his hands up, and i could easily see him outboxing the baby faced assassin in a rematch.
We need more characters like NAz in Boxing.. Imagine if everybody was fuckin boring like Kneeguel Cotto or Bradley..
You compare NAz to dumb sob like Floyd Mayweather and u can see the difference..
Naz had real charisma and wits about him.. Now that's called personality..
Can you imagine Naz and Floyd talking shit to each other? NAz would be so witty about things floyd would start stuttering even more like the dumb sob that he is.
We have no characters like Naz in today's boxing.. I miss the guy
Hamed was entertaining and had punch power. He acted like a spoilt brat and slowly lost his way for a variety of reasons.
I cannot overlook Hamed paralyzingly that couple in a selfish wreck less car crash. That among other things prevents me from liking him or having much interest in him.
He was good, awkward, powerful. But he was an ass.
yeah, I miss Hamed. Back then, I was happy that MAB retired him. But thinking about it, the guy was quite a character and was entertaining as hell. If he had learned how to box properly along with having those awesome athletic talents, he could have been one of the All time greats. Really miss the guy.
The segment where he gets the haircut is one of the most ridiculous things ever committed to film
The Prince who turned back into a toad. He was finished at age 27 and was never interested in a rematch with Barrera, the only A list fighter he ever fought. He missed potential match ups with Morales, Marquez and Pacman? What was he really afraid of?
Saw that one coming. The ring post should have had its own highlight reel. Honestly man it all went to his ear weary ego and head long prior and he earned that clowning. He thought all he had to do was touch him, literally, and fooly slept on Barrera being able to adjust let alone sponge a punch. Not to be a total dick but watching a guy from across the pond the way Hamed came makes me miss Benn all over again, and respect him twice as much.
Great action fighter and great character. Drew a lot of money and interest in boxing so for that alone he deserves big respect. Exciting with true KO power in both hands.
Obviously he had some glaring flaws in his game that worked against lighter opposition but got capitalized on by a true ATG in Barrera.
Would have loved to have seen him against other world class featherweights at the time like Morales, Barrera again, ect but I guess he had enough.
Two predictions in there that are pretty funny in hindsight: Manny Steward claiming that Nas is the greatest featherweight of all time (over guys like Saddler, Pep, Arguello, Armstrong, ect) and that he would be remembered as such. And Lennox predicting that Naz would come back stronger after the loss, because real champions rebound from losses well.
Naz had the potential to be a great but flying in a barber to cut his hair when it did not even need cutting shows where the mentality of the fighter was at the near end of his career. He fell out seriously with Ingle. That was embarrassing for him.
:-\ Probably having his (lack of tight technique and balance) exposed so others can also use it against him?
Its easier to stay when you are getting it all your own way;Naz sparked alot of fighters then MAB disassembled his spark kit and Nazes own light went out.
I wonder a couple of things #1 how much did that guy charge for that hair cut after being flown out there? And #2 what is the reason Naz thinks Allah make him lose for? Because sure as eggs are eggs he wouldnt be thinking it was his cockiness or lack of skills or Marcos better skills.
He isnt alone though, theres been other champs who have not wanted anything to with a rematch and then theres other champs who faded fast and some others who even gave up on the fight game altogether after someone had paved the way how to beat them.
