Mayweather may defend both 147/154 in one fight
I take everything boxingscene says with a grain of salt but this is interesting.

The latest word, according to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, is that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will possibly emulate the past accomplishment of Sugar Ray Leonard by taking part in a bout where titles from two separate divisions are at stake.
Mayweather holds the WBC/WBA world titles at welterweight and junior middleweight. In November of 1988, Leonard fought Donny Lalonde in a bout where the WBC super middleweight and light heavyweight belts were up for grabs. Mayweather has a return date of September 13th.
"The last news that I have is that Mayweather wants to defend his two [WBC] titles in one night. If this is confirmed as an official request it will be addressed immediately. Sugar Ray Leonard did it against Donny Lalonde and before that Henry Armstrong was the only one who had that history of defending multiple titles in different divisions. We'll wait until an official request arrives and then we'll see," Sulaiman said.
Mayweather To Defend 147 and 154 Titles in One Night?
Re: Mayweather may defend both 147/154 in one fight
Makes no sense, and who even cares if he does? It's like Evil Knevel saying "I'm not only going to jump over that stack of cars, I'm going to do it WEARING A RED SWEATER". Who gives a shit what belts are on the line. They mean nothing anyway.

I appreciate the tip of the cap to history but the only way it has any legitimacy is if he makes welter and fights a Jr Middle with the Jr. Middle having a shot at the Jr.Middle title and the Welter belt becoming vacant if Floyd loses.
I apologize if the link says that I only had a free minute so I haven't had a chance to read it yet.
When you consider what Leonard was able to do with the Lalonde fiasco anything is possible. Think about it, all he has to do is make 147 which he can do and whether he's fighting at 147 or 154 he's the same weight on fight night give or take a pound. The catch is the catch because he would need to convince a legit 154 belt contender to starve himself just like Leonard did to Lalonde.
The trouble is he's not really accomplishing anything since he already has both trinkets. What he should be doing is trying to get someone holding a 160 trinket down to 154 to challenge him for the 54 while putting up the 60 at the same time.
Re: Mayweather may defend both 147/154 in one fight
He coulld fight Cotto at 147 and where both titles be at risk. 154 is the limit not the minumum.
Re: Mayweather may defend both 147/154 in one fight
Meh, day-before-weigh-ins make it all meaningless anyway...

I usually go to the shops and buy a tub of salt then swallow.... Just thinking about reading something on boxing scene.
Re: Mayweather may defend both 147/154 in one fight
"Official request" ;D Might as well be written in crayon. In the day of catchweights we'll legitimize 2 separate divisions in the name of 'his-story'...but only if your name is Floyd.
This would be the worst thing that could happen
Re: Mayweather may defend both 147/154 in one fight
Floyd earned the title the hard way by beating Saul. However Floyd achieves very little doing this, and what Leonard did was just wrong. Floyd could only be doing this for future negotiations with Cotto.

Your Evil Knevel analogy was hilarious.
