Box a runner in open area with no boundaries?

So my question is, is it (almost) impossible to chase down a tall fighter with reach advantage and a quick jab in a completely open area? Is there anything I can do to my footwork, feints, jabs, etc... to make this possible? Are there any youtube videos that can demonstrate this?

I boxed amateur a few fights. But for the past couple of years, I've only been sparring at the gym with both amateur and pro fighters. I do this every so often when i get off from work.

One thing I'm trying to work on is how to box someone who runs a lot. When I'm in the actual ring, I have reasonable success when I cut off the ring and pin the guy against the ropes where I do my work.

More recently, as an experiment, I've been sparring some friends who are also amateur boxers in an open parking lot where there are no ropes or ring. I told the guys there are no boundaries. When i end up sparring the tall guys with reach advantage and who like to run, I have ZERO success. They just keep back pedaling. If I charge in too hard, they keep stuffing me with jabs and crosses which basically also creates space for them, or blocks my vision and steers me off course. If I'm too aggressive, they land ther punches and are then off in the distance. I then changed the rules and told the guys that there are "invisible" boundaries now, and be reasonable as if it's a ring fight..you can't go back in a straight line forever. Those guys agreed to the rules, but I still didn't do well...they are able to dance off to the side (a lot of time stepping out of bounds temporarily and accidentally, but then returning the fight area).

So then i did an experiment. We changed locations so that there was an L-shaped wall. So at least we have two sides to a ring. In this situation, I did much better, just as if I was in the ring.

So back to my original question, is it practically impossible to box tall fighters that run in a completely open area? I wonder because if two boxers of equivalent skill level ever wanted to duke it out , will the taller running fight win most of the time?
