Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
and ıt certaınly DID help Ali when he was on the ropes, as he could lean so far back ıt was unbelıevable. Foreman leanıng ın tryıng to reach Alı, he was already on the balls of hıs feet tryıng to reach the gangly Alı, and couldnt get planted well, then what wıth Alı pullıng Foreman's neck down and ın, pulllıng hım ınto hım. Foreman was nullıfıed.
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
I think the ring was too small and the canvas was too soft which all favoured George so the loose ropes evened the fight out.

Yep - I also thought the trenches were a bit close together in World War 1 and gave us an unfair advantage

Yeah but the chemical warfare evened things out

True Fact
Roy 'Tiger' Williams was beating the S*** out of Muhammad during sparring sessions.
When Muhammad walked into the Ring at 4:00 AM, he had nothing.
So, he rested on the Ropes.

At 4am I sure he was resting in bed.

This is just entrapment for Bill Paxton...

He did well then?

George Foreman > He 'sleepwalked' through that 'fixed fight'.
Muhammad did nothing for 7-Rounds, then woke up.
Roy 'Tiger' Williams beat up Muhammad again, back at the Deer Lake Training Camp
when they got back to the States.
I do believe his wife Belinda lumped him up as well.

Ali tried to dance, he failed, and spent few rounds trying to find a new tactic. The 'rope a dope' tactic was a nice accident, the name itself was created by David Frost; watch the post fight interview...

A couple of days ago I was going to post an article from "The Sweet Science". It's an interesting view of how it was not just about the rope-a-dope.

This shit is hilarious. They should have banned the rope in 1865 and used rubber walls instead. See through of course or just went with sheets of poly like along hockey boards that absorb and reflect the weight.

That is one thing that I immediately noticed in the first round. Ali had intended to use his legs and not get stuck on the ropes but the surface of the ring was soft and he could not move around as easy. He probably changed his mind and tactics from that point.
