Floyd the Hypocrite. Fact.
Don't think I've ever made a Floyd thread, so a first for everything. This is a good read by Kevin Iole that covers the hypocrisy of "TBE" (spit)
Floyd Mayweather is an immense talent, but boxing not only survived, it thrived, long before he ever pulled on a pair of gloves. And, as much as it might jolt his ego, it will survive just fine once he decides he to retire from the ring for good.
Boxing survived the retirements of Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard and it will survive without Mayweather, as well.
For all the good Mayweather thinks he's doing for the sport, the reality is he's doing it far, far, far more harm. Forget the lunacy of not making the fight with Manny Pacquiao, a bout the fans of the sport that he professes to want to please, have been desperate to see. The problem here is that Mayweather's success has led him to believe that it's a sport of one and that he's the only fighter who matters.
There are many fans and sycophants in the media who buy that angle and repeat it ad nauseum, but for all the good Mayweather's bi-annual mega-fights do for boxing, he's also bringing it great harm with many of his words and actions (or lack of actions).

Re: Floyd the Hypocrite. Fact.
wlad is far worse for boxing
poeple tend to agree unanimously to floyds bellendness but accept his tallent, yet people tend to generally have the opinion the wlad is a gentlement and a role model yet ignore the hurendous cheating that creates contensts that are outrageously stacked in his favour and then put his opponents in extremely dangerouse situations fight after fight
ill keep preaching :)

Come on, even if you are in love with Floyd, you can't argue with that article. Floyd thinks he's bigger than the sport/buisness. He's not.
He's the Kim Jong-il of boxing.
Re: Floyd the Hypocrite. Fact.
I don't think he believes his own hype. If he could make more money telling people he was shit and just got lucky every fight he'd do that. You can definitely criticise him for not fighting Manny or taking other risky fights though but don't forget Manny wasn't entirely blameless. Floyd was ready to make the fight but Manny developed a fear of needles which he's since managed to lose.
Re: Floyd the Hypocrite. Fact.
Don't care for the article either. As if there is some onus on any fighter to better the sport over their own well being? Of course we'd all like that, but it's a laugh really. Boxing is a cutthroat industry, fighters should all take every measure they can to look out for themselves alone. Floyd talks all kinds of shit, of course he is a hypocrite if you take it at face value, but he has handled his career tremendously.
He has actually managed to increasing his earning power umpteen times while becoming less dominant and less exciting than he was in his prime. Whether or not FLoyd even believes he is "tbe", he IS the most successful boxer of all time, and I suspect that is slightly more important to the man when it's all said and done. What happens to the sport when he retires should only concern him as far as his own promotional interests, which obviously Canelo isn't one of.
