are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
Seriously, that ref in the Fortuna/cotto fight was horrible. His one redeeming quality was that he allowed the fighters to punch out of clinches which I love, but he didn't break them when he needed to. One fighter would have the other in a head lock and he would be like "punch out of the clinch." Also I feel like he was scared of being hit because he would only command with his voice to break. He wouldn't actually physically separate the fighters.
Then the knockdown and the point deduction was one of the most bizzare things I've ever seen in boxing. I mean honestly, that back of the head shot was so completely obvious. Cotto probably should have had multiple points taken away. And as anybody who knows even the most basic things about boxing would understand that you can't call a knockdown and then call it a foul at the same time. It makes absolutely no sense.
And lastly, he should have just DQ'd Fortuna when he swung at cotto after the bell. I don't care if he missed or not. It was clearly after the bell and he swung a hard shot at a defensless fighter. If that would have landed, it could have seriously damaged cotto. You just can't do that. It was insane that Fortuna even did that. A point deduction was not enough of a punishment for that.
Anyways, I honestly feel like that ref had never seen a boxing match in his life. It seemed as if the ref had read the boxing rule book once and semi understood the rules of boxing but had no idea how to ref a fight. I have seen terrible refs but this guy may be the least knowledgeable about the rules.

Did not see the fight, got a link, sounds like a bad one.

I agree, that ref was retarded. It was like prison rules. Going by that standard you knock a guy down and then punch him in the balls twice and break even... and still win the round for being more active. Also hes yelling at these guys and complaining that they're not listening, and never once considered they're both native Spanish speakers. You could kind of tell that Fortuna pulled that punch.. just to scare Cotto. The reaction of cotto and his corner was hilarious... His trainer saying .. go down!!! fall to the ground!!!! and pointing at the floor.... Cotto.. going " huh? what? ... ohhhhhhh riiiiight, gotcha *wink wink* and then gently lying on the mat and laying motionless, had me in tears...;D

Lou Hall was over his head. The guy was yelling like he was scolding unruly toddlers and made himself a factor within moments. Cotto landed 3 rabbit punches and it was insane to rule both a KD and a intentional foul. You should be required to work more than only 6 nights as a pro ref and 8 round matches to get a fight of than level and visibility

Yes and its the same temp agency that hires the clicker crew for compubox.
Re: are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
That was just about the imperfect storm. Incompetence, Nonchalance and Impotence for 4 rounds and then a 5th round full stop.
Re: are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
It was so bad though. I don't know if I'll ever see a ref call a knockdown and a foul on the same punch. History was made.
Re: are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
Cotto was a disgrace for the dive.
Re: are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
That was as much comedy as it was boxing
Re: are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
Laurence Cole has called some pretty bad matches.
Re: are we hiring refs from the temp agency?
I think too many refs are letting these back of the head shots go. It has become almost acceptable. They are very dangerous and it seems to me it would be something the refs could easily remedy
