About this fight- Notice how much more polished Martinez is than he was vs Chavez, and how big his shoulders are. Nelson is a very nice guy. I met him years later and we talked for half an hour, after I started the conversation by telling him that I always wanted him to lose, but that i respected him for always fighting tough guys. It is silly to think that Nelson could fight with Chavez. If Nelson ran, he'd go 8. If he fought, 4. Finally, they mention Rich Marotta during the commentary and he was a class guy. You'd see him ringside and every time you saw him thereafter, he'd remember you and pick up the conversation where it stopped last time you saw him. His wife was/is a Brit and he bought a nice house on the beach after he won a bunch from the California Lottery.

I do not think even the great Julio Ceaser Chavez would have been able to stop Nelson.

Love me some Nelson..but he lost that fight. He def had some under appreciated subtlety and defense I believe and in no way does Chavez grind him out but Martinez rose to the occasion and had great poise. The thing that has always stuck out to me was the crowd and the onslaught of boos against both guys. I mean come the fook on, a bad decision beer shower I get ;D but both showed some quality boxing

Nelson was a quality fighter and came over here and bashed up Cowdell and McDonald. He would have done the same to our Barry McGuigan.

Nelson was a great fighter liked watching him.:)
