Long range uppercuts should you thro them like a long range hook or more like a cross
A long range hook is a hook with an elbow bend larger than 90 degrees, think Tommy Morrison he loved to throw long hooks as did Sugar Ray Robinson. Like a right angled hook the arm stays rigid at the elbow and stays in place.
With a right cross however the arm "unravels" much like it does with a straight right or a jab. (or at least as far as I know)
Does a long range uppercut unravel like a cross or does the elbow stay locked in position from start to finish?
Re: Long range uppercuts should you thro them like a long range hook or more like a c
note to self try a locked elbow right cross see what happens lol

If the punch started with the elbow in the final position you could not generate power and would be compromising defense horribly.

true that's a good point but does it become locked at the elbow once it reaches the desired arm position?

When I have a reach advantage and I get someone ducking off to their right I like to use a long uppercut. But I throw it like an upside down straight right. It's very tough to see, and goes mostly out but slightly up. It's a really effective punch.

Long range cross is more like a hook
Uppercut is uppercut
There is no way you can interchange the technique.

As grey said a long range uppercut is not something you want to do, too wild. You see it here and there wen guys dont know how to apply a good uppercut.

Interesting that you have two threads with a common theme.
Hooks are thrown uniformly, regardless of range. The elbow adjusts to direct the punch.
Uppercuts also rely on the angle at the elbow to deliver the fist upward.
You adjust the angle to suit the situation and therefore the elbow does not lock.
Re: Long range uppercuts should you thro them like a long range hook or more like a c
I think the longest one you'd ever want to throw if ever, would be if you ducked down and slipped under their led arm to their outside and you threw your trailing arm up in between their arms. You'd be wide open and over committed trying one from distance any other way.
