Who are/were some fighters who were great at setting traps for their opponents?
Hop is/was very effective at setting traps. He completely dismantled Tito with them. Floyd is very effective as evidenced in his fights vs Hatton and Judah. James Toney was very good at drawing guys into corners, slipping shots n spinning them n trapping them in there.
Ray Mercer..... the KING of traps. Watch his Morrison fight, as well as a few other non notables, and you would see he set traps. Even with the fight with Lewis- trap city.
Danny Garcia is a modern day trap-star.
Juan Manuel Marquez does it all the time.
Stiverne has the knack as well.
Good choice with JMM, I think he ripped the LW division because of his ability to set traps. Wasnt the fastest, strongest, no physical advantages, just a superior thinker.Quote:

It's hard to see the trap, when Mercer..without mercy threw left after left, until Morrison seemingly collapsed into the ropes. That was brutal. Shame on the ref...but damn, I enjoyed it!!Quote:

Morrison was the same combination over and over and started falling into clinches more and more. Mercer would push him off at shoulder, squaring him and making him reset and the beginning of the end began end of 3rd. I know he wasn't a great fighter but he did beat Klitschko in Corrie Sanders! Dude had the sniper left hand that he set up for Wlad, then he fell for it! Always remember him warming up for the Vitali fight and just leaning to set up the trap left hand!
Any great counter puncher. Floyd, Rigo, Donaire, JMM, ect were/are fantastic at it.
I loved Roy Jones' style too, he would keep his hands WIDE open, inviting someone to fire the right hand through, and he had his left hook cocked and ready to throw.
Chavez and Hatton set up the left hook to the body trap brilliantly and to great affect.
Most outrageous trap: leaves massive opening knowing opponent is already a dead man walking then pulls off an unseen temple shot on the move.
