Tapia always came to fight. Rough life and he took it out on his opponents, looking forward to watching.
Enjoyed that, he had a tough life. You have to feel bad for him.
Sad and moving. I really liked Johnny.
I was once at the Hall many years ago with my wife and Johnny was there. A kid in a wheel chair wanted his photo taken with Johnny but Johnny’s publicist (or whatever) said “come on Johnny, we have a plane to catch.” Johnny replied, f—k the plane: and proceed to get that photo done. We could not believe it with our own eyes. It was like something out of a movie.
After that, I always had a great fondness for him and when he was robbed in his second fight with Ayala, I will never forget the pain on his face. I suffered with him on that.
I put it in one of my books under “The memory Bank.”
Tapia & Pryor are two bad luck life cases who took their anger out in the ring. Yet gentle with the their fans. As stated with the person in the wheelchair, I got to take a photo with Tapia, then Aarron.
Surreal that their hearts are so genuine with the fans & so full of fire in the ring.
This documentary just jogs your memory, and it reminds you what a great fighter he was but
a very troubled life he lived a sad story.
I watched a version of this that had about 30 minutes extra footage. I thought it was badly edited but didn't realise it was produced by HBO and not finished. Look forward to watchin it again. Tapia had a proper life story worth telling
