Best Defensive Effort in a Losing Cause
'Best Defensive Effort in a Losing Cause'
December 3, 1982
Wilfred Benitez against Thomas Hearns.
Wilfred {Age; 24 years, 2 months} was not given much of a chance to
last the distance against 'The Hit Man'.
But, on defense alone, Wilfred not only lasted the 15-Round distance,
but he kept the bout much closer than anybody thought.

I like the way you think.
That 'bloated whale' didn't land a single clean punch on Jimmy.

Re: Best Defensive Effort in a Losing Cause
I think Floyd Sr gave SRL some problems defensively.
Hop vs Kovalev is the best recent example. Lost every round but still managed to avoid most of the big bombs and stay on his feet against one of the biggest punchers in boxing.
Re: Best Defensive Effort in a Losing Cause
Herol Graham v Julian Jackson - boxing masterclass about to get stopped at the end of the round and then the Hawk lands.

Master
You cannot be Knocked Out in a 'best' defensive effort.

Calling that "draw" a loss still irks me ;D;D
Re: Best Defensive Effort in a Losing Cause
Pat Cowdell losing a split verdict to Salvador Sanchez over 15 rounds.

Pat did put on a good defensive effort. Near brilliant against a great boxer.
