Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
What if Roy Jones fresh off his title winning performance over John Ruiz, took on Mike Tyson in a mega fight?
I personally think that Tyson would have beaten Jones, Ruiz, or Rahman during 00-03.
Jones would have been very intimidated IMO as he was simply not a true heavyweight n Tyson was the most ferocious heavy ever. He'd eventually go to the ropes n that would spell big trouble for Roy.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Roy wanted the fight.
Tyson's era imo was 85-90 not sure who Tyson beat past that era worthy of noting.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Roy mentioned fighting Tyson, Holyfield, Douglas.
Heres how much he wanted any of them in reality.
He fought Ruiz...
;D
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Jones was a phenom and a real beast but I think that fighting someone like Tyson would have been a bit too much for him though; Jones had an ok chin but nothing more and I don't think that he had the power to really hurt Tyson. Tyson had crushing devastating power and an iron chin. As much as I love Jones and think that he deserves a place in the top 10 P4P for what he did in his prime, that bullet seems a bit hard to bite to me.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Roy Jones was good but in my opinion not even the best Roy Jones could have survived the worst version of Tyson.
Even in his very last outing with McBride, Tyson was nothing less than a very dangerous opponent.
I just can't imagine Roy not being overwhelmed by the strength, ferocity, speed for such a big man and the enormous power.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Tyson could not figjht past 4 rounds and could not handle big ft heavyweights leaning on him but Roy was too light to cause him much problems.
If Roy could go past 4 rounds he stood a chance but I do not see him lasting that long.
James Toney that beat Holyfield would have beaten both.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Roy would have beat him.
Tyson sucks man. He is weak quitter.
Roy was pretty much at the peak of his career at that point while tyson was a circus act.
Roy beats him.

Roy beats him.
Rubbish!
The fact of the matter is Roy never fought him. Roy talked about fighting him but if he really thought he could have beaten him he would have fought him.
Again... He didn't!
Tyson was the type of person who would fight whoever if the money was there.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Tyson was still way to strong for Roy I'd say, he would have been able to walk through his punches and corner him, physical mismatch. Not as if Roy was some giant version of his former self at HW, he was pretty clearly slower and had no power, I agree there is a reason he only fought Ruiz.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
I thought Roy called out Tyson after Ruiz. He stopped calling Holyfield because writers said Holy was a shell

Whereas Mike Tyson was hot property at this time after zlewis had beaten him;D
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Roy is probably my favourite fighter of the modern era or in the top 3 but Roy gets killed no matter how one plays with the dates.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Since Roy escaped with his life against Lebedev, I think there is a decent chance Tyson would have only knocked him out much faster and not quite killed him either. The risk of death was probably a factor in why Roy didn't pursue the fight for sure though.
Re: Roy Jones Jr vs. Mike Tyson circa 2003
Tyson was way too old and slow and stiff by '03 and RJJ woulda won a UD

I remember when Roy said he'd fight Lennox for 100 million. He used to crack me up at times.
