Who was the true "Bazooka"?
Who was the true Bazooka?
Former featherweight champ Rafael Limon (52-24, 38 kos)?
Former superbantamweight, featherweight, and super featherweight world champ Wilfredo Gomez (44-3, 42 KOs)?
Former welterweight champ Ike Quartey (37-4, 31 KOs)?
I might have to go with Gomez on this but Ike was great too.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
Quartey. Without question in my mind.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
All 3 were true Bazookas. And deserving of the name. Some like AJ Banal will never ever be deserving of the name
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
I think of Ike Quartey or Wilfredo Gomez, but I have never thought of rafael Limon. It has always been Bazooka Limon.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
Whoever was first to have the name is the true bazooka although I only remember Quartey being the real one.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gomez, hands down.
42 KO's in 44 wins.
There's an earned nickname if there ever was one.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
Wilfredo has scary two handed power for sure!
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
That is an impressive record did not realise he was that destructive. I think I need to check out his career.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
@Master
Check out his knockout win over the also ATG Carlos Zarate, who was 52-0-0 at the time.
That should tell you all you need to know about Wilfredo's power and closing ability.
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
Like Tito Trinidad, both hands are lethal ;)
Re: Who was the true "Bazooka"?
An eerie similarity:
Gomez knocked out the highly regarded and undefeated Carlos Zarate who had come off a huge victory over fellow countryman Alfonso Zamora (29-0 at the time). Trinidad similarly knocked out the highly regarded (and widely feared) Yori Boy Campas, who was himself 56-0 at the time. Huge fights, both of them..... similar huge knockouts.

Yeah, let's recap.
The wink should've given it away. Darn it... my skepticism radar was temporarily shut off.
But then you repeated the line for Kermit Cintron and that was the dead giveaway.
The overzealous "Viva Puerto Rico!!!" line sealed the deal.
Oh well...
Sarcasm notwithstanding, Wilfredo Gomez was the REAL Bazooka. :)
