Im heading to NY for a week with the missus. Going to boxing the Friday and Saturday night but are there any locals with recommendations on what to go see/do outside the obvious, empire state building statue of liberty etc. Also if anyone can recommend any decent bars that might be slightly cheaper then those in times square. Being Irish I like my bars dirty and dingey :D

Don't know if you went yet but the village and Soho are a lot of fun to walk around. Great art, clothes and about anything else you can imagine. There ars bars on every block. I used to like Sinclair's as it was a blues bar and they always had fantastic little known blues players there. I haven't seen the 911 memorial yet but you won't find a shortage of interesting things in NYC, it's a great city if it weren't for the new Yorkers, now Boston, that's the place to be.
