What are your thoughts on him? What if he hadn't been in that accident?
He was pretty good but was over rated in my personal opinion just waiting for someone to say he would beat floyd lol
I think he had hit his peak for the most part. I believe he had the size, speed, power, and most importantly reach to really bother Floyd Mayweather Jr., but he had already moved to 160 before getting a shot vs Floyd.
Paul had the size to fight almost to 175. He had a great reach but may have been helped had he learned more technical skills instead of relying on his stamina and chin. I am not sure he could have recovered from the KO loss to Martinez....I think he would have had a WAR with GGG, Canelo, Cotto, and maybe even Kirkland as I could see those styles match up very well.
He was an exciting fighter and I wish him all the best in his recovery
He was a stylistic monster for just about anyone in his day. A 6'1'' welterweight with an 82" reach... and was a southpaw, had a huge heart, iron chin, stamina for days and loved to throw over 100 punches a round. That's a goddamn nightmare for anyone, it was easy to see why he was the most avoided guy in boxing in his prime.
Like mentioned above though, I think he had peaked by the time of his accident. People were calling for him to retire after the SGM KO and the lackluster showing against Lara (a fight a lot of people felt he lost). I think he was shop worn at that point and was talking about retirement so I think we saw the best of Paul Williams. I would have loved to see him have that fight with Canelo though.
You guys said it all! I wish Williams all best in his fight to get out of that wheelchair.
