Well.....it only took 40 years
Re: Well.....it only took 40 years
Of course, one of the most underrated bands ever.
People have called them the "Canadian Led Zeppelin" for years. Personally I think that's a disservice to Rush, who always wrote original material and never stole songs from their opening acts.

Now if Cheap Trick could get into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame
Re: Well.....it only took 40 years
@Greenbeanz I thought you said their music was shit.
Doing a bit of fence-sitting here are we?
Re: Well.....it only took 40 years

I really like Zeppelin but Rush never got their due.

I acknowledge they were a great band and were great musicians, but where's the musical integrity? So many stolen songs that were proven in court to have been stolen.

Whoa...Hold your fire. Don't Rush into painting me as some fly by night fan. Considering the fact that I once auditioned and got offered the job of being Geddy in a Rush covers band that is highly improbable. I got excellent feedback but singing that high regularly, is work for clockwork angels. Boston and Rush are not counterparts you could even argue that they come from different hemispheres on a mental level, they are like snakes and arrows. However you roll the bones, even in 2112 you could not compare them.Of course they will be long gone by then, and so there will have already been a farewell to kings. I don't know where you got those signals but I shall try and maintain grace under pressure rather than causing permanent waves and shall now exit stage left, leaving only vapor trails in my wake.

I was offered the gig but my natural register is nowhere near as high as Geddy Lee and by the end of 5 songs I was fucked, so I had to decline. (My bass playing was even further from GL but they had a guy who nailed that). Spirit of the radio and the rest of the LP that was from are still for me their finest hour. The ridiculous Neil Peart drum solo on a stool on rails made me laugh though. Sometimes less is more as Buddy Rich proved.

Well with an intellectual drummer who writes lyrics influenced by Ayn Rand and a Bass playing singer, who like Matt Bellamy, sings like he has just received a swift kick in the goolies you might love them ;D. At heart a prog band of incredibly proficient musicians they always remembered the value of a good tune. You have probably already hear this one of their hits from years back. It's as good a place to start as anywhere, from the LP "Permanent Waves" it is surprisingly not about Nicky Clark the celebrity hair stylist.:-X
