Re: gay marriage in the US
When I read the thread title I was saying it in my head to the tune - born in the USA for some reason.
Re: gay marriage in the US
I wonder what the liberals will come up with to complain about next?
For such a horrible, evil, vile, hateful country we're pretty accepting of huge changes like this.

The US being evil and can do no good is first year undergrad politics. Still prevails but is ill informed. Not to say that mistakes aren't made and parts of the US system I don't like but it's a lot more nuanced than many claim.
Out of interest, if you care to say, do you agree or diasgree with the change?
Re: gay marriage in the US
It's a great ruling IMO.
Time for people to accept the fact that homosexual couples are just as legitimate as heterosexual couples. There's no real good argument against gay marriage.
People think it ruins the sanctity of marriage? Haven't shotgun weddings and the overwhelming divorce rate done that already? People think it's all about procreation? Well what about heterosexual couples that are infertile or choose not to have kids? Are they also ruining the sanctity of marriage?
I never got the hate against gays or gay marriage. It's such a fascist attitude. As a heterosexual man, the thought of having sex with another man is disgusting to me. But there's plenty of heterosexual fetishes I find unappealing, and types of women I find unappealing that others may like. Who cares? I don't have to have sex with another man, or suck on a woman's toes because some men have foot fetishes. People should stop trying to fuck with the happiness and freedom of others.

Understand where you are coming from but is it up to the judicial branch to define marriage. The judiciary should not make laws, it should interrupt them and or rule them constitutional or unconstitutional. The legislature, if need be, should define marriage then the courts should define if said definition is constitutional. This is just another example of the courts having too much power, which was actually in one of the justices dissenting opinions, he asked if you really want to give the courts power to change the definition of something that has existed for thousands of years.
Imo, civil unions were an appropriate way to go for gays.
Re: gay marriage in the US
Its about time that the gays had the right to be as bitter and miserable as millions of straight married people.

Well, if the definition of marriage is subjective what about bigamy. What's the problem there, if they all love each other, why not. What if a guy loves his dog and wants to marry it. Who are we to impede his happiness. Screw it, I want to marry a love doll. I'm tired of these fascist telling me I can't smoke crack, it makes me happy, I'm not hurting anyone else, what business is it of theirs. Commie bastards

For the record I have no issue with bigamy, I think it should be legal as well.
We can get into all the same tired slippery slopes that come up whenever people try to justify their opposition to gay marriage, but I think it's a bit silly to compare gay marriage to beastiality, use of illegal narcotics, or a relationship with an inanimate object or some other (non)life form that can't consent.
The fact is, homosexuality occurs in nature and it occurs in our society. We're talking about a lot of people. We can spend our time hating and resenting them because they don't like to put their dicks in same things we do (or the "typical" things in their vaginas), or we can accept that some people are gay, and those people want the same kind of privileges that heterosexuals enjoy. They want to fall in love, have a partner and have their relationship acknowledged, and not have it looked at as some novelty.
And to me, saying "IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN BECAUSE IT'S NOT HOW IT HAS BEEN DONE" is probably the weakest argument you can have against ANYTHING. As humans we evolve: attitudes and perceptions change, we look at old ways and we come up with better ways, and we look back on past mistakes and try to atone for them. People are accepting of gays and want them to have the same rights and heterosexuals, that's the way our world is heading and I think it's a great thing. I want to progress, I don't want to live in a world like the middle east where they're doing the same thing they've always done and following the words of a book that's thousands of years old.
Re: gay marriage in the US
The problem is NOW whether or not Churches HAVE to allow for gay weddings. Will Christian bakers HAVE to make cakes for these wedding? What about Muslim bakeries?
There's going to be confrontation between churches and the LGBT movement but we'll see what happens.....personally I really don't care. I mean I think there's more to this than JUST Gay marriage...perhaps it is to change what marriage is.

No, my main argument at this point is the Supreme court making the ruling, it should not be within there power to do so.
Re: gay marriage in the US
Anyone looked at the National divorce rate lately. Do you know how many idiots we all watch stumble into marriage for all the wrong reasons fully knowing it was a ship leaving with anchor down. Honestly, who cares. Its time the self righteous and Nanny state to get over themselves, release the death grip on man made laws clinged to in the name of organized, often hypocritical, religions. We gotta be bigger than this. Congrats Mrs. and Mrs. Jones...ya made the team.

IMO, they can make laws legalizing anything they want, including gay marriage. But churches cannot be forced to accept, condone, or even participate in gay marriages. For the record, I agree with Walrus on this, as is my God-given right. Anyone can feel however they like... and I resent the fact that straight people have to tiptoe around issues like this. If you agree... fine. If you disagree... it should be fine also.
Re: gay marriage in the US
I don't have a problem with gay marriage. It is a good thing and shows a dedication towards one another in a life long journey.
