Re: The Ethnic fight game
Herbert Lewis Hardwick. The "Cocoa Kid"
Born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The only Hispanic in what was called "Black Murderers Row" Fought at welter and middle and had fought close to 250 times. Like the others in his group he was forced to fight all the others and never got his due.

Gr8 pick. I'll have to check this guy out- not familiar with him
Re: The Ethnic fight game
Wilfredo Gomez! The Bazooka! Both hands were lethal, p4p one of the biggest bangers ever!

I like the sound of him will check him out what weight was he again?
Re: The Ethnic fight game
Featherweight and I think also super bantam. His fights with Zarate, Pintor and of course Salvador Sanchez are legendary.

Good fighter, but Salvador Sanchez whooped his azz from pillar to post. When Gomez bravely endured the 1st round thrashing- Sanchez turned master boxer-until Gomez faded-then Sanchez completed the beatdown.
That was not a good fight IMO to call Gomez a great. He was-but not against Salvador.

They sat Sanchez was sublime and a true great. These fighters came just before I became obsessed with boxing.

Yeah but we're talking Salvador Sanchez, who also beat the shit out of two other HOFers in Nelson and Lopez.
23 years old when he died, 44-1, knocked out 3 future Hall of Famers.
Re: The Ethnic fight game
Yeah. There were some decent Jewish fighters in recent years. Dana Rosenblatt was good, Yuri Foreman was decent, so was Roman Greenberg before he quit.
The Jews figured out the money was better on the promoter/manager side of the business.
Re: The Ethnic fight game
How about Cuban? I've always loved kid gavilans style. It's just so fun to watch. He fights like a poor man's Ray Robinson which isn't an insult.

Exactly!! LMAO- not a good fight to tell someone of Gomez' greatness!!
Forgot about Yuri Forman- good pick for modern day.
@ Master- I didn't know about Sanchez until I went to my 1st boxing hall of fame 2008 I think. Just sitting at Grazis pub (Rocky Graziano) listening to him, Bert Sugar, Angelo Dundee, Lou Duva, Manny Steward talk ...man, memories!, Oh, I digress LOL! After that I got some Salvador online.
Did You know Roy Jones Jr calls him one of his fav of all time to watch.
Please- watch Sanchez vs Gomez- even when he had Gomez hurt- he patiently walked him down, calculate which punches to throw- truly a head of his time and a hell of a loss to boxing-to die so young.
