Huge bullshit robbery on the untelevised Crolla-Perez undercard!
As I've mentioned in other threads I attended the event in Manchester and there was an awful decision on the untelevised undercard. Liam 'Dynamo' Taylor boxed 6-28-1 Mark McKray in a 4 rounder and McKray to my eyes took the first 2 rounds and lost the 3rd round. In the final round, Taylor was winning a close round when he was dropped by a hard overhand right hand. He barely beat the 10 count and could just about stand and the bell saved him. He was helped back to his corner on very unsteady legs.
The shocking thing was that the referee scored the fight 40-37 in favour of Taylor. How is that possible when McKray surely took a 10-8 round at the end? Poor bastard got robbed big time and it needed saying because this will get absolutely no coverage.
BoxRec - Liam Taylor
BoxRec - Mark McKray
Re: Huge bullshit robbery on the untelevised Crolla-Perez undercard!
Found a video where Taylor admits he was saved by the bell. Which he just admitted he lost. Decision was absolutely dreadful

What's crazy is that Boxrec doesn't even mention that Taylor was knocked down in the 4th!

Exactly. How is it possible to score a round in which a guy was heavily knocked down and 10 seconds more would have been knocked out a 10-10 round? Taylor scored maximum for every round. It's crap like this which is why I've been complaining about UK officiating & judging lately. As you can guess, Taylor was the hometown fighter.
Re: Huge bullshit robbery on the untelevised Crolla-Perez undercard!
Thanks for the first hand view. This is why whenever we hear "that was the biggest robbery ever" it's really not. The McKrays of the world don't have the platform or fame for announce teams to give a shat, just a few hard boiled fans who know better and his family knowing that he schooled some young protected kid. Speaking of, it has to be a matter of time before he gets beat as he steps up...his first 7 have combined record of 55ish Wins against over 600 losses ???
Re: Huge bullshit robbery on the untelevised Crolla-Perez undercard!
Sounds like a total sham, but in fairness it doesn't deserve the same recognition as a relevant fighter getting screwed. If a guy is 6-28, he doesn't have any aspirations of being good anymore, all that matters is he can provide a test. McKrays stock will if anything go up from this, as he's only going to be an opponent no matter what. Get that it still sucks of course, but there is probably no real loser in the outcome.
Re: Huge bullshit robbery on the untelevised Crolla-Perez undercard!
McKray had recently beaten another prospect and I'd heard he was in with a shout of an English Title shot. The issue is that if he'd been given the victory here he'd have his shot. While I accept that a fighter like him doesn't have any worldly aspirations, when you win a fight, it should be marked on your record that you damn well won it. The sad thing is that my mate said to me that he had McKray 2-0 and I said to him that it didn't matter, he was the opponent and he'd have likely lost the 2 rounds on the referee's card. It's terrible that I was right.
Re: Huge bullshit robbery on the untelevised Crolla-Perez undercard!
Fair enough, I think of someone with that kind of record as a guy who just wants to get paid and compete, but t if he lost an opportunity here that's that. Side note, what kind/level of fights in the UK can still be scored solely by the referee? In theory they have a much better view of the action than ringside judges, but obviously far to much room for corruption, and in a fight where the ref has his work cut out he may not get a clear read on the action is my impression.

thing is, how would it help anyone if mckray won
hes a loser, there to lose, thats what he does

That's a pretty dumb attitude. If that's the case then what is the point of having the fight at all? Just pay McKray to not show up and have a loss against his record and win against Taylor's record and nobody has to get punched in the face. Judging by that performance Taylor isn't really going anywhere either. You have to remember that not so long ago Ovill McKenzie's record looked shoddy and he was just an opponent on paper but he grafted, put his wins together and now could end up with a world title shot. Every fighter deserves a fighting chance and if you win a fight you should be awarded it.

Generally 4, 6 & 8 rounders with no title on the line are judged by the referee. It was only a few years ago that 10 round English title fights were judged by the referee but a few shocking decisions from referees made them change to having 3 judges.

Do people still not understand how this works. Home fighters do not lose against journey men and journey men are a lot better than most give credit for. They are paid to lose. They fight every week for a couoke fo grand. If they win one week they dont get a phone call the next week. Most of the time the promoter will pay the journeyman a few quid extra to just give the lad a run around as they know he is no use but he can sell tickets. Id back any of the British journeymen above these eastern european and south americans with fancy looking records any day

See that they have added the name and noted the KD on boxrec now. I've never seen the plus of a sole ref-judge and it has to leave it open to shadiness. The journeymen are the literal foundation of the sport and cannot be expected to just lay down and 'read the script'. Where does the corruption and poor judging begin..off the screen and in the dark. Shit judging is shit judging and it doesn't matter if its a household name easy to follow or some obscure joe blow who puts it together one night and turns the favorite-plan on its ear. Don't get caught up in elitism and wink to bad calls because one day it'll be our guy. If anything it should lead to rematch right off as much for McKray 'earning' it but more so for Taylor to show what he's really got and his backers to see if the investment is paying off. They won't all reverse and be a Freddie Pendleton but talk to Quirino Garcia about finding an upside after starting 0-19..and yes he was robbed vs David Reid ;D
