Re: Cotto v Alvarez 2 maybe?
It's a noncommittal article. It doesn't mention many names nor make firm and fast claims. The fight might happen in 2016. It might be at 154. There may or may not be a title at stake. I don't deal in uncertainties of that magnitude, but since it's being mentioned, some related thoughts:
Cotto and Canelo fought at 155. One pound less isn't going to make a hill of beans worth of difference as far as I'm concerned. Canelo will make 154, and still bloat up to go into the ring 20 pounds heavier than Cotto. 154 is at least a weight division. Title or not... it's a recognized weight division.
Canelo has two choices on his hands (well.... actually, he has more... but these are two of the main ones): He can go up to 160 and fight GGG, and prove he's worthy of the God-like status his fawning fans have bestowed upon him since Day One of his career. Or two.... he can squeeze himself into a 154-pound weigh-in and have a repeat of the first fight with Cotto.
The first fight revealed that Cotto can't easily hurt Canelo without getting into Canelo's wheelhouse and absorbing punishing punches. A punch from Canelo is more likely to hurt Cotto than the other way around. Cotto fought admirably in their first fight. Some thought stamina might be a problem in the latter rounds... but Cotto proved them wrong. He was just as strong in Round 12 as in Round 1. The fight was action-packed, but Canelo's youth and size advantages proved too much for Cotto to overcome. On top of that, the judges made sure to make the decision a wide one, something I could've bet my house on (not like Roach, who reportedly bet his house that Cotto would win). So a rematch in Las Vegas or anywhere considered Canelo's backyard would be pointless without a surprise Cotto KO win.
Re: Cotto v Alvarez 2 maybe?
What a waste of time and effort. Canelo is a super middle pretending to be a light middle. Cotto needs to try for something else a new challenge.

Yeah , why not ? After all, he only has to go up 2 weights !!! when was the last time Ward fought at 168? Come to think of it, when was the last time Ward had a meaningful fight ? Let's take it a step further, when is the NEXT time Ward will fight a meaningful fight?
GGG could warm up for the Ward fight by fighting either Lord Lucan or the Invisible Man!
Re: Cotto v Alvarez 2 maybe?
Uncle Bob determined to scrap the marrow from the bone. Really no need or interest for a rematch.

I do not care if Golovkin did not fight Ward. He has been busy trying unify the belts and destroying all challengers. If Hagler was in his shoes he would have done the same. Cleaned up the division.
