Nicholas Walters vs Sosa draw.
Was there a bigger non-draw 'draw' robbery than this in 2015? I'm not into huge punch numbers and percentages but they were glaring in Walters favor. You didn't need them with the gap in skill so clear imo. The scary thing wasn't the draw calls..it was one judge had Sosa actually winning :cwm13: At the most, a Christmas friendly and the act of giving most, you might stretch 98-92 Walters. This call left me sober.
Anyone see it remotely close?
Re: Nicholas Walters vs Sosa draw.
I can't actually think of a worse call recently. It wasn't a great performance from Walters or anything, but I think I would have given him every round, only a couple were at all close.
Re: Nicholas Walters vs Sosa draw.
Really bad decision in my opinion the strangest thing is that walters was the star for that fight and with hbo and he was robbed against a relative nobody... I guess he must have annoyed someone important by not making weight for his last fight.

No. I don't think Sosa won more then a rd. Puzzling really because if it was fixed, whats in it for anybody? I have to admit that Walters delayed reaction to the draw call was odd. Now that may have been str3am lag. It was a Top Rank co-feature and he promotes both guys and I just cant see an advantage other then putting Sosa's name on the map. Cant see Walters accepting a premeditated outcome but Arum manages Sosa as well as promotes him whereas Walters is managed by Lou and has a promo deal with Top Rank. Ton Schreck ought to change his name to Tom Schlep. Dude had Sosa ahead by 2 rounds. Could a fix be that much in your face? How do you lose a fight landing over 50% of your power shots? It happens but you never even needed that punch stat to know who won. Could it be that judges have gotten that incompetent? I mean really, every week?
Like you I dont put much stock into punch stats but there are times when they get it right or at least have the separation about right regardless of the numbers.

Re: Nicholas Walters vs Sosa draw.
I'd say it was just 3 bad judges and a fight that looked a lot more competitive than it was from their seats. I've always thought every sport should utilize any benefit of cameras that they can, boxing doesn't at all. Judges should at the very least have a monitor with the TV feed that they can check in on, if not solely watch the fight that way. With fights that take place mostly on the inside, the judges really are in about as poor a position to see what is happening as is possible.
Re: Nicholas Walters vs Sosa draw.
It was a terrible decision. You would have to really try to give Sosa one round. It makes no sense. Walters is the guy that has been pushed so why do this? Sosa is tough but didn't look all that great. I don't see him being a champion one day or anything so its weird.

You know Rocco, fair and good point! I've whined about spoilers especially in titles and respect that was my bad and oversight bud. I hope we didn't ruin the fight when you watch it. Secondly, blow me. If you roam a boxing board the morning after such clear corruption you run the risk and benefit information that it actually happened, even if you're in ninja mode. Shine a light on that shat I say. Cheers and post your score up.

I like Walters and thought he was going to be Crawford type special. What happened to this future star?

I still like Walters and think he has an exciting style. That being said, and to your point, I will offer the following two observations:
1) While I enjoy Walters' in ring "style" of fighting, I never considered him as talented, versatile, or skillful as Crawford. Crawford is a classy boxer-puncher who can box stylishly behind the jab, fight orthodox and southpaw, brawl when necessary, make adjustments when necessary, and end things with one shot. Walters is a beast who, to borrow an analogy from Marvin Hagler, is like Pac Man (the video game, not Manny Paquiaou) in the ring, chewing up whoever is in front of him. This leads me to my second point...
2) Walters may be a special fighter still, just not above 126, due to his reliance/necessity for size and brute force advantages for his style. Think of Marvin Hagler and Ricky Hatton as examples. Marvin was an ATG, but he never went above 160, likely because he knew his strength and power advantages at that weight would likely not be there at 168/175, and he wouldn't be the same fighter. Hatton wasn't nearly as great as Marvin, but he was much more daunting/effective at 140 than he was at 147. Bam Bam Rios is another example of a style that is effective at one weight, but loses advantages as the weight increases. Something to think about...
As for who won, I agree with the majority. Tough to give Sosa more than a couple of rounds.
Re: Nicholas Walters vs Sosa draw.
I watched it knowing the result and the controversy. Normally these "bad" scores are blown out of proportion (I was expecting to make a case for Sosa), but blimey, Sosa won a few rounds if you're being generous.
Worst thing is - Walters was lucky to get away with a draw. Mad.

Hey take a pil ffs.
There is no such thing as a spoiler in 2016. Its an oxymoron where the boxing world is concerned. If people dont want to know something for some reason then turn off the computer. Dont come to an international boxing forum and tell people not to spoil it cause you have not seen it yet. So what if its in the tiltle rocco...tough shit.
