scott harrison wants crack at barrera

WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison is eyeing up a blockbuster showdown with Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera later this year.

Harrison's coach and father Peter today said he was "keen for Scott to move up to super featherweight" and Barrera is the clear target for the Cambuslang fighter.
"Scott has been doing featherweight since he was 15 and now he's 28," said Peter Harrison at a news conference in Belfast.
"That's a long time to be doing featherweight and I think the time is right for him to move up to super featherweight.
"But there has to be a reason to move up to super featherweight and if Frank Warren can come to us and offer us a fight with Barrera then that would be a great reason to move up a weight. It has been talked about and I hope the fight can be made."
But Before Harrison can think about a clash with the Mexican superstar he must first defend his title against unbeaten former WBO super bantamweight champion Joan Guzman at the King's Hall in Belfast on May 20.
Harrison, unable to appear today after missing his flight from his training camp in Spain, is facing what many believe is the toughest test of his career.
However, Peter Harrison refuted such suggestions, saying: "When you look at Scott's record there are men on it who stand out such as Manuel Medina, Tom Johnson and Wayne McCullough and I think those were harder fights than this one.
"Of course we're not taking Guzman lightly. He's the number one challenger and he's a former world champion but I just feel that Scott will be too strong for him."
Harrison-Guzman is joint top of the bill in Belfast along with Ulsterman Eamonn Magee defending his WBU welterweight title against Margate's Takaloo. Amir Khan will also have his seventh professional contest following six straight victories.
Olympic silver medallist Khan, whose opponent is yet to be named, said: "I've boxed in Cardiff, Glasgow, London and it's great to be coming to Belfast and to be fighting in the King's Hall where so many legends have boxed.
"I feel my career is going great and I'm looking forward to another good win in Belfast and hopefully the Belfast public will get right behind me."

Guzman-Harrison is off!!
I don't understand Guzman's team?? They have signed with Golden boy and are fighting on the Mayorga-Dela Hoya card?? WTF??
The fight with Harrison is set for 20 th May looks like they dont fancy it now.
It's a shame lets hope Scott can get Barrera.

Re: scott harrison wants crack at barrera
MAB has a date with Rocky Juarez set aside, should be a good fight and then maybe he will go after either Chvez for that world title or Pacman? To be honest, would rather see Barerra in those fights instead of with Harrison. Oh and Manuel Medina is number 1 contender for MAB'S belt so.....

I think Barrera would be paid much more to fight Harrison than Chavez and Medina in the uk, and appanrently Warren says it's Barrera's people who have contacted him regarding the fight?? Don't know about that!!
Who knows but Medina had his day over 6 years ago and Scott already knocked him out a couple of years back.
Also with Guzman, he saw Harrison as a good fight to make with quite a good pay day probably new it was 50/50, but now he has Golden Boy's backing doesn't need to take this risk cos he feels the fights will come in time with the backing of such a powerful team behind him.
Re: scott harrison wants crack at barrera
Yeah, agree with you on the Median points but the Chavez fight so for history, to be remembered in the same light as JCC AND "ahead" of EM by winning that title in another weight.

As far as everyone on this side of the Atlantic is concerned ,the reschedualed date of May the 20th is still on!
The first i heard of Guzman fighting on the ODH card was when someone posted a rumour from another forum last week about it.Let's not go down the 'Calzaghe/Lacy cancelled' scenario again shall we,just in case! ::**You know what happened last time ? ;)

Check this out mate!!
Guzmans team seem to have cross wires with Warren and Co, they sound as if they know nothing about the date set in May, they believed he was fighting in Glasgow when there has been a press confrence for May 20th in Belfast?

Don't accuse Harrison of running from anyone,if he pulls out of a fight it's for legitamate reasons.
He'll fight anyone put infront of him,as being banned from every pub in his home town shows ;)

All those pub storys are lovely I'm sure but hes a profesional now & needs to act like one, pulling out of fights won't get you any respect in this sport.
Re: scott harrison wants crack at barrera
Harrison wouldn't have got clearance to fight with an abscess in his mouth, there nasty, especially when in a bout, ur gonna get punched in the mouth!!
Harrison won't back down from anyone, just a shame he's got Warren as his promoter. Calzaghe has pulled out of quite a few fights, the Johnson one twice and the Lacy one got put back, so don't jump the gun and call Harrison unprofessional. Stuff like this happens all the time in boxing. It's just part and parcel of the business!
