Sometimes real life is funnier, more ridiculous and outrageous than anything any standup comic could make up.
Don't even know where to begin here.

First of all... how much money is being spent on this? These so-called experts have traveled all over the U.S., meeting with government officials, no doubt wining and dining. Who's paying for all this? They're taking up valuable time from government officials who get paid to do worthy services for their community. Again... who's paying for this?

Beyond that, how are they going to sort this all out? We're far removed from the slavery years. Who's going to determine slave ancestry, and to what extent? How much effort is going to go into that? Not all blacks in the U.S. are descendants from slaves, so..... who's going to sort all this out? Well, according to the article, Georgetown University has done something in that regard.

Misguided is too nice a word for all this. It solves nothing. Racial tensions will not go away because of some scatterbrained idea to seek out descendants of slaves and give them money and apologies. It is pointless to apologize for something that people did well over 100 years ago. Instead, efforts should be aimed at solving the problems of today. Yes, there is a problem. Racial tensions are at an alltime high. Legislation isn't going to make people any nicer, better, wiser, or more open-minded. Legislation will never change the minds of those ignorant, backward people who judge others by anything other than their intellect, personality, and other human characteristics. Instead of legislation, it should be more education. And even that's going to be an uphill battle. Prejudices ingrained generations after generations are difficult to erase. The police vs. black men crisis of today only illustrates how, when situations like this erupt, people will flock to their default comfort zone. Nobody is willing to address each case individually on its own merits. For a group of people (mostly black, but some non-black), any time there is a shooting, it's automatically the cop's fault and it's because they're all racist. For another group, all shootings are warranted and it must be because the black guy did something that merited getting shot. I've been saying this since Day One. It's too much trouble to actually analyze case by case and try to cure the disease, not the symptoms. It's much easier to have knee-jerk reactions and yell at one another. Then we have these (cough) experts, running around, wasting precious time and money (taxpayers money), coming up with the most ridiculous answers to a problem they have no idea about.

It's ironic, really. The U.S. is a great country PRECISELY because of its diversity of cultures, races, ethnicities, etc. And yet the hate groups, the ignorance, the misguided efforts..... they persist, even well into the new millennium. And to top it off, we now have two of the worst candidates ever running for President, and unfortunately one of them is going to get elected.

God help us.

Yes and we must take in Mind slavery was legal at the time. It was constitutionally approved. I could see something perhaps for the way the civil rights bills were ignored but how many people have settled in the us since abolition. They will need to pay for this? My family came from Ireland as indentured servants to we get repetitions? Will there be an uprising when it is found that less than one third of African Americans can trace roots to slavery. Will that cause war between the haves and have nots or just Bering

More confusing is that now most black people in America are mixed with white people. So how do you tell who is a pure black person whose ancestors 100% of whose ancestors were actually slaves?

Even suggesting reparations of any kind when there is so much time between is an extremely nasty position to take that is only going to hurt both sides. We basically(indirectly, I suppose) have such a system for Natives in Canada, and per capita they are probably one of, if not the most marginalized and impoverished demographics in any first world country. It's an absolute disgrace brought upon by extremely misplaced "empathy" from uber-left airheads.
