Selby v Barros called off
Just read on BBC and Fightnews that the Selby v Barros fight for tomorrow night has been called off, after Barros failed to meet the "physical requirements" of the IBF, although no further information about that has been included in the declaration from the IBF. Understandably Selby is gutted, as he will be down a few pounds when he gets back to the UK, having been training over Christmas and the New Year for this big fight for him.
Re: Selby v Barros called off
Barros tested positive for Hepititis. It had to be something like that with them not disclosing anything.
proper kick in the bollocks for Selby but theres a bigger picture to look at.

Re: Selby v Barros called off
What a gutter. Must be the worst thing possible to have your fight called off at the last minute, especially when you're desperate for momentum. His purse was listed as $100,000, now if that's correct (some proper sources have said to take Vegas numbers with a pinch of salt) he needs to get back to the UK asap.
Now i'm a teetotaler I was all prepared to stay up for this bill, specifically because Selby was kicking it off early at 1am. I'll give it a swerve until the morning now
Re: Selby v Barros called off
Selby will stay for the fight and soak up the atmosphere. He could face Frampton later on.
Re: Selby v Barros called off
Frampton will be a massive underdog to beat Selby unless he chins Santa Cruz in the first round.

I agree and if I was Frampton I would swerve the fight and take on Josh Warrington. :)
Re: Selby v Barros called off
Frampton and Selby would wipe the floor with Warrington. Different level.

Really? I would have thought that Selby would be the underdog - after all Santa Cruz is a level above the rest of the opponents that Selby has faced.

I know but it would be an easy and big fight for Carl and he deserves it for what he did last year.

My Selby-Frampton comment was meant as humour - clearly gone over some bonces - in response to a previous post. Never mind.....
Being serious then - Yes Selby would be the underdog against Frampton. Terrific matchup, even better after seeing the way Santa Cruz beat Frampton.
@skinflint - why would anyone want to see brilliant world-class fighters in their pomp take "easy" fights? Eff that! Weirdo.

Sad but true. I feel like there's a good comeback in me soon though.

Please ensure to signpost your :Sarcasm: in future. Not sure if I was drunk, tired, or perhaps a bit of both.

I'm pleased there's no medical reason you had to stop but concerned that you would stop in the first place.

Lee Selby wants to fight WBA featherweight champion Abner Mares in Wales
Lee Selby says he would like to fight Abner Mares after the Welshman's IBF featherweight world title defence against Jonathan Victor Barros was called off.
Barros' failed medical test forced the abandonment on Friday.
Three-time champion Mares, who holds the regular WBA title, as opposed to Leo Santa Cruz's super belt, is also keen on the fight.
"That's a fight I would take straight away," said Selby.
"He's a big star in America so a fight between me and him, wherever it took place, over here or back in the UK, it would do massive numbers."
Negotiations for the fight could be relatively straightforward, as both fighters are advised by American promoter Al Haymon.
The cancellation of the Barros bout cost Selby, 29, a first outing in Las Vegas.
Selby admitted he might have to arrange another fight before he can set up a meeting with former super WBA champion Carl Frampton, who is eager to face the Welshman in Belfast.
Selby would like to defend his crown in Cardiff, and Mexican-American Mares would be happy to take on the man from Barry in his homeland.
"I'll fight anyone anywhere," Mares told BBC Wales Sport.
"I'll go to his country and fight him. I've got no problem with that because that's the type of fighter I am."
Mares, 31, met 29-year-old Selby at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, with both fighters present as Northern Ireland's Frampton lost to Leo Santa Cruz on points.
"He [Selby] is a well-known fighter, obviously more in his country," added Mares.
"I'm a respectable, well-known fighter myself being a four-time world champion and holding a world title.
"We can unify world titles and make it interesting. I have no problems packing my bags and flying over there to his hometown because I know of his potential.
"I know the type of fighter he is and it will make it a good fight so I'm with it."

I read that Barros had further tests? And no evidence of hepatitis was found.
