Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame Enhances Legacy of Fighter Who Never Won Title?
The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame (NVBHOF) has only been in existence for five years but it already is being called the best Hall of Fame outside of Canastota, NY. Up to this point, a retired boxer who never held a world title has not been inducted into the NVBHOF. Only boxers who were champions at some point in their career have seen induction into the NVBHOF. The neat thing is that Nevada Non-Resident Boxers have their own category. This opens the door for retired professionals from across the globe, which is the way it should be and only fitting.
The International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, meanwhile, is the highest possible honor anyone can receive in boxing. Given that – if the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame grows into a large market like the IBHOF and continues its annual inductions – will being inducted in Nevada become an equal or higher accomplishment than winning a professional world title? Will it improve the legacy of a retired boxer who never won a world title? Will we look at an inductee differently when considering prime-for-prime, head-to-head comparisons (for example, let's say David Tua makes Nevada's Hall, would that help his historical standing in terms of mythical fight predictions, such as "David Tua vs. Shannon Briggs: Who Wins?")?
What say you?

I don't think it will have an affect on mythical fight predictions just because a fighter was inducted. There are a few that are inducted to The International Boxing Hall of Fame that I guess fans feel shouldn't be there. Mythical fights are predicted on what we know about the fighter, how we think their styles would mesh etc. Personally I feel The International Boxing Hall of Fame has become somewhat of a popularity contest in some regards. Although the most recent inductees are hard to argue against. I understand it tho as the more fighters they get attending the HOF weekends the more sales will increase.

I understand your philosophy behind the mythical fight predictions and how that wouldn't really play a role, but do you think that being inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame would become equal in achievement to winning a professional world title (for a boxer who retired without ever holding a title)? Would such induction help with his legacy?
Thanks for taking the time to share your views! I just want to clarify and make sure that I holistically understand your viewpoint. Looking forward to reading more of your take!
Re: Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame Would Strengthen Legacy Of Boxer Who Never Won Title?
Many greats have never won titles. Briscoe, Burley, Bivins, Langford etc. A great fighter is a great fighter! Some guys like Broner have won titles in 4 divisions but couldn't hold a candle to the guys I've mentioned. Hall of Fame should be a recognition of a fighters career among his/ her peers as one of the best to ever participate in the sport.
