Steve Collins would have beaten the 2 of them
Larry or whoever you are, please tell me what you mean by saviour???
The reason he is being spoken about in the highest regard right now is because of so many different reasons.
1. 99% of the boxing pundits had him being brutally KO'D
2. As you put he was seen as a protected bum, but if you looked closer at his ameateur and pro record you could see he was far from it.
3. He went into the fight as an underdog.
4.He produced a boxing lesson against a guy a lot of people thought was the next big thing in boxing.
5.There is a big British following on this forum.
I could go on and on and on, but they are the main reasons, and why did Steve Collins not fight Joe in 1997?? Then he was shouting his mouth off in 1999 that he was coming back to beat Joe's arse what happened to that?
Steve Collins was a game fighter but did not have the same class as Joe Calzaghe.
Re: We all love Joe Now.....
i still don't love him, i just don't think he's as bad as some first made him out to be, he's still no god, as i saw plenty of flaws in his fight with Lacy, nonetheless, if he stays at 168 he'll most likely dominate the division for the rest of his career
Re: We all love Joe Now.....
think ive answered this on another post but Collins was great at beating faded fighters ((lets face it Benn and Eubank never fought the same after nearly killing a fighter)) never forgiven him for pulling out of the Joe fight... but then he knew it was a smart move on his part.
his excuse at the time as in retirering because all the top fighters are avoding me ::**
why take the fight in the first place then and he did get knocked on his arse but a jouney man in the fight before he retired and claimed he was undermotivated ::**
he had followed Joe's career very closly and think he as most at the time could see somthing special in this young gun and didnt fancy his chances ;)
Remember Joe didnt pull out of the fight... COLINS DID ;)
on another note when he said he was coming out of retirement to fight Joe the doctors wouldn't let him... cant remember why ::**
Re: We all love Joe Now.....
Collins was being put on his arse by youngsters whilst training for the JC fight, he pulled out because he knew he was going to lose!!
I like Steve, but he never beat a really excellent fighter in their prime!
Re: We all love Joe Now.....
Regardless if you love or hate Joe, he's a good fighter. I don't like B-HOP, but he's a good fighter.
Re: We all love Joe Now.....
we all love Joe now??? erm sorry but I've always been a huge fan of Joe's ALL of his career! and always will be!
Re: We all love Joe Now.....
I have always been a fan of Joe and had tremendous admiration for his talent, its kind of sad it took this long for the general public to appreciate his talent but some ppl just don't stop hating. what do you want joe to do he is only fighting ppl available to him, ppl were questioning joe throughout his entire career and they said he needs to fight a tough fighter like lacy to prove himself after which he did now ppl are saying lacy was nothing and joe's victory is empty. give the guy a break I don't understand what joe has to do get some respect.

:coolclick: :goodpost: Exactly - and it's not as if the doubters can give a single example of a fighter that Calzaghe should've faced but ducked.

Re: We all love Joe Now.....
ok maybe abit harsh but so many people did give him shit up until recently.
he deserves what he has now, he's a good guy
still would have like have seen collins and joe back in the day.
collins fought eubank twice before calzaghe did for the first time.
He fought benn twice aswell and fought mike macullum

The men that he beat before Calzaghe would disagree with you.
You have no class. :sadclick:
