(Philadelphia Police Department via AP)PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A toddler's caregiver was charged with murder in the suffocation and mutilation death of the baby whose body was found partially buried in a public park with the top of her head exposed, police said Thursday.
Police arrested Nyishia Corbitt, 33, for the death of 22-month-old Alicia Barnes, who she'd been taking care of. They say surveillance footage near Corbitt's apartment showed her leaving the building with the toddler — who police believe was already dead — in a child carrier and walking to the park across the street some time Oct. 9. She was seen in the footage returning to the apartment without the child.
"It's a terrible tragedy. This shouldn't happen to a child," Philadelphia Police Captain Jack Ryan said during a news conference.

Newborn, 2 Infants Among 5 Stabbed at In-Home Day Care Center by Woman Who Then Tried to Kill Herself: NYPD
Three babies were among five people stabbed early Friday at an unlicensed day care center in New York by an employee, Yu Wen Fang, 52, who then tried to kill herself, officials said.
The victims — two girls and a boy, plus two adults — were in critical but stable condition Friday at local hospitals, New York police said.
The babies range in age from 3 days to 1 month, New York police Assistant Chief Juanita Holmes told reporters Friday.
The facility was used mostly by Chinese women who give birth and stay there before returning to China, a law enforcement source tells CNN.
Neighbors say it was frequented mostly by Chinese parents, but Koreans and Africans were also seen there.
The suspect, a 52-year-old woman employed at the center, was taken to a hospital after slashing her wrist, police said. She is in custody.

Technically chimpanzees might be to blame for everything. Then again, they don’t hire babysitters named Nyishia.
