Am about to fill out my tax return as somebody who is self employed and it is that time of the year for reflection and change. I love what I do, but have had like many people under 50, many jobs already that I really grew tired of, or just could not carry on doing.
Is your job just a means to an end or do you love or hate it?
I love my job but am getting itchy feet. It's completely to do with my age and what I think I should be doing, what direction I should be going in.
I'm an 'Endpoint Solutions Specialist' for a Law firm here in Good o'l Bristol. Basically I develop our current technology, and source and implement new. I get to travel whenever I want so long as it's in scope. Regularly visit Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona. Off to Madrid for a week in March for a conference bit of a jolly.
On the whole it's a pretty awesome job.
I enjoy my job's that I have done over my career but would not mind retiring in another 10 years if I can.
Currently work in probation contract/performance managing voluntary/charitable organisations who rehabilitate offenders with specialist services such as accommodation, employment, substance misuse, money management, women, etc.
Although I do not directly work with offenders it still is very interesting and enjoyable work.
I am now in the private sector which is "jobs for the boys", corrupt and not enjoyable.
Im quite a bit younger than any of you guys, so I hate what I do, but feel I’d hate anything I do.
I honestly love the work I do and don't hesitate to say that if I had to work with as many people as I do animals it wouldn't be worth it. I've only had two jobs spanning the last 28 yrs. One thing I've learned is at times it's not what you do, it's where and with whom you do it. My actual 'job' and execution, daily tasks and responsibilities are the easiest part of my day. But the surroundings, personalities and work place attitudes..not so much.
I'll say some of the best advice I failed to heed was when I was 22 when talking about professions and career was fairly basic...It was simply, don't wait. On anything or anyone.
Is always interesting to hear about what people have done or do to make a living. I know we have posters who work as
Lawyers,
Engineers,
Teachers,
Boxing Trainers,
Stone Masons,
Soldiers,
Drug Dealers,
Store Managers,
and a lot of self employed
Do we have any recruitment bods on board? Steelie was into the recruitment game but he left and actually never came back the prick.
I updated my CV on a job site just to put some feelers out. I'm now getting pestered by recruitment types who clearly havent read my CV properly because the calls I do answer all go the same way................oh yeah this probably isn't for you, it's too far, not enough money, not the right direction. Why call me then cunt?!
