"World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
Personally I can't stand millionaire, champagne socialists crying on camera to make the average Joey and his/her family into opening their wallet. However, I never realised it was a bad thing the African kids were benefiting from the money. Apparently it's worst to portray Africa needing help from western nations than send billions in aid.

Think Lammey is wrong on this one. The charity is doing good work and he is creating a battle when there is not one here.

"Buscarle cinco patas al gato" is a Spanish phrase basically saying the same thing. Don't look for problems where there aren't any.

He didn't say any of that.. Dooley made it about race in her reply, she handled it terribly having the cheek to again make it about HER feelings etc. She has done some sterling work. Her program about the brave women kicking ISIS arse the other night was brilliant but the instagram shite was beyond cringeworthy. Comic Relief is big business and there is no way they can justify sending celebs over on jets to cover what local journalists could cover themselves. It is bullshit and it started with Geldolf and Bono (who are both absolute cunts to work for, just talk to people who just refuse to crew for them) and their patronizing bollocks. Investments in arms etc and telethons with pricks like Wogan imploring people to stick their hands in their pockets while getting paid a fortune to do so.
The British people are incredibly generous and it is so hypocritical for celebs to be pleading for this money, that you know many of the poorest will give, when we already give so much to badly run foreign aid development companies that are corrupt to the core. It's not charity, it's a way for the champagne socialists to make themselves feel better like you say.
It's weird where now white people think they are somehow a victim when a black person points out that stereotypes do indeed exist, and that perpetuating those stereotypes make black people get treated differently. And then the broflakes pull out the very PC card they supposedly detest ;D
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
Not quite the same thing but I remember watching that Queen film and Mercury saying they were doing it for free. All well and good but I was thinking if every millionaire rock star would just give a million pounds themselves they would produce a lot more than a pound from ordinary people who often don't have much. You need a lot of people giving a pound to get to a million.
It turned out that a lot of that money was wasted and given to corruption. The kindest thing you could do for the 3rd world is debt forgiveness. We give 'aid' that doesn't even cover the interest on debt so in essense we are actually making money and keeping people poor. Just let the debts go and stop propping up tyrants. Easier said than done.
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
Don’t know about this lady and this white savior shit. But do many of you guys donate to causes when you can. At many of out shops you can donate 1 buck to 100 to foodbanks, animal shelters etc and 100% of the donation goes to the cause. I always try to donate at least a little something. If u give a 100 they announce on the loud speaker, ring bells and the whole store claps. I really don’t like that. Seems to defeat the purpose. Bono is big on forgiving third world dept but of course he moves his money into countries where he can save taxes. Anyway, don’t mean to high jack the thread it just came to mind when I read it.
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
I agree with David Lammy.
Some white people indeed do have a "savior complex" and behave as if black people in Africa are inferior and need their assistance. Their behavior makes them feel virtuous. But like Bono, they are often extremely wealthy and whatever they give is no more to them than an average working person tossing a peanut to a pigeon.
Bono’s net worth is $700 million

Black Africans would be better off if white people left them alone, in reality they are quite capable of looking after themselves.

Come on Beanz, I never even mentioned Lammy (who here would know him?) and provided "for and against" articles featuring what he said.
My comments were based off the subsequent debate his quote sparked. Many British people seem to believe the African kids don't even need help, it's a big western con to promote racism here. Some people blamed racism in schools directly linked to comic relief and white people who donate. Being a naive bloke I found this a little surprising, seems like a kick in the teeth to, as you said, incredibly generous people. But what do I know.....
However, what do you mean he never made it about race? He specifically said "white saviour" not "celeb saviour?"
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
I don't think we shouldnt give any money to Africa , Lammy and his cronies can go meet all the black leaders of every african country and sort out the overpopullation and famine themselves.
In fact i think we should GOFUNDME for Lammy's ticket one way of course.
Lets face facts the African nations are doing a fine job of self management , they do not need any money from the rest of the world and how dare anyone who thinks they do.

They are absolutely incapable of looking after themselves
Which is why we shouldn't help them
We've been trying to teach them how to farm for over 100 years and they can't fucking get it down.
Let the subhumans continue to starve and commit atrocities against one another
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
World could use fewer cunts too but doubt we'll see any big stars donate to the cause. Not familiar with the recent hubbub over there and this woman but the first thing I thought of was when Sally Struthers ;D was all over the TV raising money for Ethiopian children in the 80's. Many of these 'stars' or elites or whatever may have good intent but it rings hollow when she was walking around a village in hundred dollar sun glasses and designer pants suit and boots surrounded by bloated little kids covered in flies. Not to mention the corruption of donated goods and funds in some instances that wind up in the hands of war lords and despots. We learned first hand what hell shitty farmers could unleash when the U.S went from 'Live Aid' movements in the 80's to trying to protect food shipments for starving Somalians in the early 90's..let it turn to military ops and then watched U.N troops and Rangers end up getting shot to shit in a way we had never seen on live television. If celebs want to act an ass and anoint themselves thats all fine but many times the cameras outshine the cause. Some have genuine intent and know how to step out of the lime light. But Africa is stronger than given credit for all things, history considered and no thanks to many a Nation waltzing in like saviors and /or conquerors and screwing them over.
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
Ironic how lammy lives in a white first world nation but he is ok for us to give money to Africa but we need a black cheeerleader.
If he feels black and white are equal why does he have a problem ?
Sounds pretty racist to me.
Re: "World doesn't need white saviours" - Race Row/Charity/Celebs/Poverty Porn
All help should be welcome. Lammy's worried about stereotyping, when he should actually be worried about how aid money is handled in Africa. There's also bigger fish to fry in terms of money coming into Africa. It stands to reason that most of what African nations need is in terms of infrastructure upgrades, the backbone of any developing country. Right now most of this money is coming from China in the form of loans. Suspicious minds in the U.S. see this as some sort of threat to U.S. national security, and probably China wouldn't be investing so heavily in Africa without some sort of ulterior motive. If the U.S. government sees this as some sort of threat, maybe they should offer some sort of help also. ;) But back to the Lammy/Dooley sideshow. People will interpret Dooley's involvement however they want to interpret it. I don't think a few pictures and videos of Dooley holding an African child will change anyone's mind about anything they're not already thinking.
