True Detective season 3.

I totally missed this had come out, literally minutes into the first episode now. excited as its so far well reviewed and being called a return to form. I know some people on here were hooked on the first season as I was, it was easily one of the best things Ive ever seen on television. Then the second was just a complete abortion in comparison and the show was binned for a few years, I assumed for good. Anyways, just wondering if anyone has been watching and what their verdict is? Obviously no spoilers. Its 8 episodes in so far, the lead actor I really like, cool choice, and it already has a nice gritty feel.

Would be interested to hear a review. I watched the first but couldn’t get into the second

I really liked it, blitzed it after the first episode (which was clearly inspired by the WM3 case). After the abomination of a 2nd season this is much closer to the 1st (although nothing will ever get close to that masterpiece) and even loosely linked (that's not a spoiler).

It looks and feels like the original in places, excellent actors (not seen Stephen Dorff in years), murder of kids, twists. I was a little put off though by the dementia storyline, it was like watching my dad (:-\).

Looking at the first season thread all the cool people on here. Ironically you posted in that one too

I just finished it, also thought it was great. Yes not as good as the first but that couldnt be expected, it had plenty of moments that gripped me the same way though, and for overall feel it was a win. Thought the memory loss and different time frames was very effective. Hard to believe the 2nd season was even given the OK, maybe it was just rushed.

Not as good as the first series but absolutely brilliant all the same. I'm fine if the fourth series is a similar knockoff of the first series if it's this good. Definitely worth watching. I was saving the second series to binge at some point and read the reviews and didn't bother.

In other news the fourth series of Gomorra has just started on Italian telly. It's about the Neapolitan mafia. It's an absolutely brilliant show and is a massive worldwide hit, they show the first episodes at the cinemas in Italy and it's broken box office records. If it's not on a streaming thing you can find it on a torrent site. There are high quality subtitled versions out there. I like watching stuff in the highest quality resolution possible. It definitely adds to the show. Anyway, Gomorra is highly recommended. The characters' taste in interior decor is absolutely spectacular. There's a film too based on the book which is OK.
