Jumping x2 weight classes.
So Kell Brook jumped up to middleweight for GGG...Khan jumped up for Canelo..and now Canelo for Kovalev.
This is getting silly when there’s legitimate threats in your own weight class.
Let’s also talk about Garcia and Spence..why didn’t Garcia fight Loma?
Are some of these fighters jumping up purposely for the perfect excuse of weight being the the reason they may loose or just a huge payday?
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
If you pull it off and win you hit the jackpot. Floyd, Shane and Manny did it against Oscar so it is worth the gamble. Many thought they were mad to try but it literally paid off.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
Guillermo Jones aka El Jefe jumped 4 weight classes. :o and was successful in each.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
In the case of Mikey, Khan and Brook fans are suckers. Though it was a given that Khan would be caved in. Canelo and Mikey played the tip toe grab a trinket game so it wasn't really two. Mayweather v Marquez now that was whack. Ghost Guerrero jumped two
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
It’s generally for a money fight. Or if you are the cash cow, it’s a cherry picked opponent for your legacy.
I just like when people clean out their own division. Despite someone being bigger, that doesn’t always mean they will be tougher. A perfect example is with Pacquiao and JMM. Pacquiao was destroying welters while still struggling with a blown up lightweight. I only like it if the person you are considered a top p4p guy and you are moving up to fight another top p4p guy.
So basically, if Canelo best Kovalev, it’s a good win, but honestly I think that Andrade is a tougher fight for him. Kovalev is better, but styles make fights. Once Canelo beats Charlo, Andrade, Derevyanchenko, GGG clearly, or even a few other solid fighters at middleweight, then he can move up. To me, if he beat all of those guys, it’s much more impressive than beating just Kovalev
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
Some are successful with the risk, others aren't :-\
Inoue did it against Narvaez ;)
Hopkins over Tarver ;)
Spinks over Holmes ;)

Yes.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
I agree with the message. But the last question “why didn’t Garcia fight Loma?” Bob never was going to let the fight happen. They called and called, Bob wouldn’t accept or return their calls. They emailed, Bob wouldn’t return their emails. The press asked Bob said “you can’t negotiate with Mikey” so Mikey “how would he know, he’s never negotiated with me, return my calls” no return of calls. Media asks again and again finally Bob “we’ll make him an offer but we won’t negotiate with him” first, that isn’t how you make a fight but more importantly it was a f’n lie, they never made an offer and they still refused to take Mikey’s calls or return them. Mikey even tried negotiating with Bobs stepson since Bob wouldn’t negotiate and he was told straight up that Bob would NEVER make that fight.
What’s worse about the question “why didn’t Garcia...?” is everything I’ve just said is easy to find. It’s easy to find secondary sources corroborating. But Mikey is the one that gets blamed. That same elephant rears it’s head again and a blind eye is turned again.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
Is it possible for Loma to jump into the 147 division after his next fight?
Still come in around 144< but the skills make the weight difference irrelevant?
Is this a possibility?

To fight and beat Crawford or Spence? No.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
Henry Armstrong was world champ at 3 original weight divisions simultaneously. In today’s parlance that is 12 ‘world belts’. It’s nit unreasonable to suppose he could have won titles in the new divisions that now exist in between those original weight divisions.
He was also robbed against Garcia for the undisputed middleweight title.
Excuse my simplistic maths, which proves nothing of course, but that is 28 ‘world’ title belts in today’s money.
A true all time great.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
It’s the biggest money grab/won’t be blamed for the loss bs. A great big man beats a great little man almost every time. Spence/ Garcia, brook/ggg, canelo/khan, all were talented smaller fighters in their primes whom lost to talented bigger fighters in their prime.
Manny beat Oscar because he was weight drained/old. Floyd beat him because he was washed up. And both of them are generational fighters on top of that.
Rigo vs loma is another perfect example. Two of arguably the most talented fighters to lace up boxing gloves, and the weight jump made it not even competitive.
Re: Jumping x2 weight classes.
Kovalev is borderline washed up though. So Canelo has a great shot of winning.
