David Benavidez v David Lemieux 5/21 Showtime

Number 1 and 2 going for the interim wbc belt tonight. Benavidez weighs in the lightest he's been in about 5 years. But I'm going out on a limb and saying he'll come in at cruiser ;D. Lemieux isn't exactly hitting his prime but can still bang and Benavidez likes to crowd a guy as a fight goes being up close for it. Figure the gas tank of Lemieux will faulter midway but this should be chaotic while it lasts.

That was an absolute waste of time and mismatch.

Lemieux looked too small and shot to pieces. He was wobbled with a left hook in the first round which he never recovered from. Lemieux was then knocked down in the second round and nearly out of the ring. Ref stopped Lemieux in the 3rd round.

Benavidez needs to take on better fighters than these to force a fight against Canelo.

Lemieux was never very good. He could punch though. Of course Benavidez was going to destroy him, he’s a far far better fighter.

I had Lemieux being a punching bag for 5 or 6 rounds and then getting some mercy from his call by his corner. Guess the ref couldn't wait that long. Decent call. You wanna give the guy a chance but that was just ugly to ignore.

As much of a showcase as that was it was a brief needed destruction. Thought they needed to stop it earlier. Speaks to the emptiness of some rankings though as Lemieux was up to 3 ffs. But small positives regardless, Benavidez did exactly what you're supposed to do to overmatched opponents and for once actually looked lean and faster at the weight :cwm13:. I think he's in a great spot with Canelo coming back "home" and has been on deck for him for some time now. Question always was does Benavidez keep his head on straight..weight and earlier career missteps..and gaining any form of motivator aka title claim for Canelo because we know that's what motivates ol Canelo partly :-X.

but no waiting around enough of that for many guys around the weight. Benavidez v Plant would seem a sure thing easy enough to make. Andrade doesn't even know where or at what weight he's competing. Morrell would be very nice! Cannot see Plant or Andrade having a very good night with David tbh.
