Edgar Berlanga v Jason Quigley
Edgar Berlanga has his first fight under the Matchroom promotional banner this weekend but that hasn’t stopped Eddie Hearn from planning ahead for the highly touted Puerto Rican.
Berlanga headlines at The Theater in Madison Square Garden against Jason Quigley and an impressive performance can get him one step closer to a bout with Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo’s plans for the remainder of the year are still unknown and with a Dmitry Bivol rematch still not confirmed, could Berlanga secure an opportunity?
Hearn, the man who knows both fighters extremely well, discussed the future prospects of Berlanga when appearing on The DAZN Boxing Show.
“We wanna push for that Canelo Alvarez fight next May,” said Hearn when discussing Berlanga’s plans with Ak and Barak.
“I also love Berlanga against Jaime Munguia. Berlanga against Gennadiy Golovkin. Berlanga against John Ryder.
“There’s so many fights out there for him to prove he’s worthy of the Canelos’ and the [David] Benavidez’.”

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Jason Quigley
Edgar Berlanga and Eddie Hearn is a match made in hell. That's all Berlanga needs... Someone to encourage his self-delusions of grandeur at the moment.
Berlanga was a 1st-round KO sensation for a while. Then when he got taken the distance, he looked a bit more pedestrian. Unfortunately, Berlanga bought into all the previous hype... and considers himself the next great Puerto Rican champion. Most of us here in P.R. have no such beliefs in him. He seems to lack dedication... and pays as much attention to his burgeoning reggaeton career as he does his boxing. Also got ruined by his early KO success. He seems destined to come crashing down to Earth (I hope I'm proven wrong) when he meets his first elite test (or even before that). That is why I hope someone derails him before he gets a Canelo fight. As an avowed Canelo hater all of his career... I really don't want to see Canelo put a notch on his belt at the expense of an overblown Berlanga... and crow about having won a "huge fight" in the PR-Mexico rivalry. Berlanga is exactly what the doctor ordered for a farewell into the sunset. Maybe if Berlanga trips up along the way, Canelo will be forced to look Benavidez's way.
Hearn? He'll sell snow cones to Alaskan natives. Which is to say he's the quintessential promoter. He probably knows Berlanga will get KTFO'ed by Canelo. But he's just seeing the $$$$ of such a fight at the right moment. If Berlanga was any good... I'd be right up there asking for him to meet Canelo. But he's not... and that's gonna play directly into the hands of Team Canelo... and put massive money in the pocket of Eddie Hearn.

It would be funny if Jason Quigley won.

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Jason Quigley
I think they're intending for Quigley to serve as a bug on the windshield in Berlanga's drive to re-launch but Berlanga has proven and remains very suspect. Faced better competition though I had him short in the nod over Mosley Jr. He's also coming up for this. Berlanga has more repeated questions than a DUI checkpoint and his professional focus needs as many answers as his defense and stamina. Let's see where he's at, but the minute he starts on with "I get a new chain and medallion with each KO" he's learned absolutely nothing.
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Jason Quigley
This one is a pretty interesting match up, quigley hasn't quite made it to the top but he is a good pro and I think he'll catch out any pretenders. I do remember Quigley doing fairly well before getting beaten down by tureano Johnson at middleweight, so I'm expecting berlanga to win..
Although it's hard to forget Quigley getting blasted by Andrade in two rounds!
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Jason Quigley
I may now have to root for Berlanga, now that there's zero chance he'll be facing Canelo. ;D ;D
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Jason Quigley
Quigley down, berlanga looks alright
