HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
Ryan Garcia fails a drug test and does not make weight then loses against Rolly and now is getting a title shot. How does that happen?
Has there ever been a more undeserved boxer who was able to get a title shot that way?
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman officially announced that the ruling had been reversed.
"The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of lifting the ban on [Ryan Garcia] after his successful process which has been documented," Sulaiman tweeted. "The WBC has been very close to Ryan, his family, management and promoter and we trust a new life inside and outside the ring will begin. We welcome you with open arms and trust you will be an ambassador for the new generation."
The lifted ban is merely the next step in the potential Mario Barrios-Ryan Garcia title fight, which is rumored to happen in early 2026. Neither fighter won a fight in 2025, with Garcia's last official victory coming in December 2023.
Garcia's loss to Romero was also for a title. The two competed for the vacant WBA welterweight belt, which had been recently vacated by Terence Crawford.
"I'm officially unbanned from the WBC," Garcia tweeted. "I want to thank the WBC for seeing my efforts of change and making this decision. I'm ready to put that green and gold belt on and representing as a true champion."

Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
Gotta be careful when choosing your fight "heroes." ;)
Just cause they adopt "snazzy" nicknames and put ridiculous crowns on their head doesn't make them worthy. Just cause they've had ONE legitimate impressive victory on their record... and then go on to call themselves "The Face of Boxing".... get embarrassed a smaller dude.... parlay your pretty face into a multi-million Instagram following.... and come down with mental issues..... not to mention demanding exhibitions with boxing legends (Pacquaio)..... NONE of that warrants the attention this basket case gets.
And now he's getting a TITLE SHOT??!!??
Oh wait.... it's the WBC (We Blow Canelo) Mafia, with Mauricio Corleone... er... I mean... Sulaiman... at the helm.
Another whopper by the organization singlehandedly ruining the sport.
Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
the real question should be how did the wbc give eddie croft a title shot?
Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
It was a nod to Erik Morales, of course.
I had to look this one up. I guess Godfather José felt that fellow Mexican and favorite son Erik needed a breather... so he fed him a dude with FOUR knockout losses in his last FIVE fights.
But the question posed here is WHY is the WBC Mafia giving gifting basket case PrincessRy a title shot.
Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
answer: nothing new under the sun. underserving fighters have been & will continue to be given title shots
i think a bigger issue is how the handling of jaime munguia & francisco rodriguez failed drugs tests & nothing happening

Yep. Especially when said undeserving fighters are "godfathered" by sleazy boxing orgs like the WBC.
Everyone knows this happens... but it cheapens the sport, nevertheless.
Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
who is really to blame?
the sanctioning bodies hold some responsibility for putting their belts on the line
the promoters hold some responsibility, as they'll make any fight they think might turn a profit & some that won't
the fighters hold some responsibility for fighting undeserving opponents but it is prize fighting
the commissions?
us fans?
as for mario barrios, he just fought a 46 year old manny who was out for nearly four years (& arguably lost) now he's in talks for ryan
i think we talked about how marvin v ray was sanctioned, so none of us should really be surprised
Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
Short answer is well the alphabet boys are corrupt. Bigger picture is today that loud brash social media accomplished sells big. *See Rolly too. Ryan is everything stated above but idiocy sells and the bodies specifically Sullied'man of the wbc embrace it and award it. Also and more of the 800lb elephant in the room of boxing today is simply..."star" power. Mainly when it comes to the US today. Or huge lack of it today. Back when Morales was beating the stuffing out of a worn and torn Eddie Croft...a helluva nice kid and decent enough but even on his peak day was nowhere on the level of a Morales...it was literally out of sight-out of mind. Just a trip down to Mexico completely off the radar and adding a notch in the belt. And a sanctioning fee to the Wbc coffers. But no one paid attention and all eyes were on Roy making his heavyweight debut the next week. The US right now is massively depleted of live, consistent and monthly star power on multiple platforms. We're not growing local venues and stoking and feeding local fanbases. And when we do have 2,3 of the biggest name US fighters in action it's behind multiple PPV walls in BF Saudi Arabia like next week. I mean Ryans last fight, when we had a massive opportunity to seat massive crowds with Haney return and Teo on the card was literally held for a "live" VIP tiny audience and literally walled off the public and interested fans. Meanwhile Barclays Arena and Madison Square garden just short rides away sat completely empty. Maybe I veered off here ;D but I think Ryan online persona and gimmick marketing fill those self-inflicted voids boxing does to itself now, much like a Jake Paul is filling a void. I mean FFS people fell completely and ironically into and for one of the biggest names and current US "stars" in Tank Davis having a shitshow match vs the same Paul :p. Its honestly maddening if like all of us here you've followed the sport for decades. Ryan is filler at this point. He's the shiny silly loud toy hanging above the toddler's head. And we the fans of today, well we'll fall for anything slopped down right in front of us. Rant over ;D

You touched on something that's very true, and IS the elephant in the room. Today's reality is that you DON'T have the Roy Jones Jr's, the Mayweather's (love him or hate him), or the De La Hoya's of boxing for the U.S. fanbase to be excited about. Just like the heavyweight spotlight has moved from the U.S. to the European stage, the rest of the divisions have followed suit. And frankly, when the U.S. finds itself with little to no homegrown megastars to support, interest is lost.
Combine that with the fact that MMA continues to siphon off fan interest. Combine that with societal changes that include the social media explosion, and the need for instant gratification (for both fighters, ie: Ryan... and fans). What you end up with is the circus you have today. Worthless, content-lacking, shiny silly loud toys, as you well put it... who have to "manufacture" content. Self-back-patting is all the rage. Self-crowning (Face of Boxing, etc) is the norm. Screw the process us fans have cherished throughout the years. That of gradually building a career. Screw fighting quality fighters within your own division. It's circus time. Complete with ridiculous 3 and 4-division weight jumps. YouTubers now commanding attention as "boxers." Fighters showing some promise and then imploding outside the ring. Meanwhile, orgs like the WBC are only too happy to perpetuate the circus, taking the opportunity to promote their favorite sons and compatriots. Making up fake belts as they go along.
Boxing has survived many times of crisis throughout the years, including calls to ban it after some deaths in the ring. Us boxing fans have to be the biggest masochists in all of sports. Judging robberies.... obvious matchups not being made.... and finally, the circus that boxing has become. Yet we keep coming back for more.
Oh well....

Its been repeated long before us, and/or repeated by many of us but following boxing is like slogging thru an abusive relationship or job ;D. It will make the most dedicated wide-eyed fan into a stubborn skeptic in due time. But we tune in because we have seen it thrive and be the literal metaphor for life at times. Sure, it gets repetitive but speaking on it is just wanting-hoping to keep the BS in check. BTW Garcia is the only fighter I've ever blocked on social media ;D. I mean its Barrios. Who some say lost to Grandpa Manny last out. Gotta call the trinkets for what they are in each case, I guess. Belt is just holding Marios pants up at this point.
Re: HTF is Ryan Garcia getting a title shot?!
htf is connor still ranked by the wbc & the wba at welter?
