Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
This is a crazy PPV for the USA. Hope Dalton Smith can win but can’t believe they have allowed Matias to be cleared to fight just because they deemed the PED was below a certain level.

I'm not an expert on PED's, so I'll throw out that disclaimer first. I think these thresholds, as in the case of Ostarine, are established in an effort to differentiate between intentional doping, and trace contamination.
Not saying whether that's good or bad.
Just throwing my opinion out there.
Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
This one unfolding as it has just felt a bit off to me. Throwing out the failed test alone is atrocious. But even the way it came out of nowhere literally in the ring post Marias v Puello. There stood Turki ring center and barged in on the post fight interview all but directly telling the champion Matias he will fight Smith next because Turki wants it. But here we are on fight week and the match is literally buried with no platform to air it, no Dazn and stuffed behind a ludicrous PPV wall. It's just terrible promotion of a title fight in a marquee US city and Barclays arena. It should be a decent fight. And I'm not putting on a tinfoil hat on ;D but something is odd. I'm sure the judging will be fair and square with no controversy at all :-X.
Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
Matchroom which is Smith promotion bid 1.6 million but lost to this PPV company who bid 1.9 million. They have not filled the arena for this bout and must be losing money for this event.
Dalton Smith is in for a tough night and Matais just is relentless (wonder how?) but really hope he can pull this off. Credit to Dalton for taking this challenge but so it should be for a world title.

Could very well be. His best plan of action imo will be to work for exactly that, no matter what.
Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
Matias is nothing special. He's whistling in a graveyard as I (and many ppl) thought he lost his last fight to Puello when he won the WBC belt. High volume pressure fighters never age well. He has decent power, but not KO power. He's a volume guy with slow feet, a stiff upper-body and almost no head movement.
The blue print is out on how to beat him. Lots of movement. Paro really exposed that. Can Dalton Smith replicate that ?
The problem Dalton has is that he's a very patient counter puncher who I think waits too long for his opponent to lunge in and make a mistake and that may work against him in the USA and he may give away the early rounds as that running around the ring not throwing anything is gonna work against him with the judges. So when Smith punches, he has to punch with dynamism and at times even bang it out with Mathias and push him bk.
But the bottom line is Smith doesnt have to be an exceptional fighter to win this. He just has to be a good (with a small g) solid world level fighter and that'll get the job done and we don't know how good he is. But to me ? Smith doesn't pass my eye test but neither did Bernard Hopkins. So we'll see.
Verdict ? Matias overwhelms Smith. Coz that's what he is, He's the kinda fighter that can overwhelm you if you're not good enough. A bit like David Aveyesean. So I see Mathias having too much "dog" in him, forcing smith to fight at a pace he doesn't like, forcing smith to bang it out with him when Smith wants clean mid distance Olympic style fight and Mathias will force Smith to quit or KO him but I could be wrong
By the way, it's a good fight but it's NOT a PPV fight. The hell are DAZN doing ?
Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
Matchroom were outbid by this PPV company.
Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
Got this one completely wrong. Shows how much I know. The unpredictability of this sport makes it the best sport in the world.
To knock out a guy who has barely been down in his career is impressive , the stoppage was a bit british…..a bit quick. But Matias gets hit too much and it was always gonna catch up with him in the end. He's too goddamn macho for his own good.
I thought Smith simultaneously fought like a warrior and moron but it worked. If this went pass 6 nds I think Smith would have been in big trouble. But it was an all action beast
I could never get a read on Smith. I never knew how good he is. Now I do. He’s good but not that good. But he’s gonna be a hard fight for anyone. A bit like Ricky Hatton (RIP), you’re gonna have to be elite to beat him and maybe I'm underestimating him again coz he does not fight like that. Smith is usually a low volume counter puncher who likes to fight at a much lower pace. This was a one off where Smith or Smith's team decided to go toe to toe and bang it out with Mathias and went out to hurt him. And I get why because Mathias can overwhelm you if you use up your energy just avoiding him. Smith said that "Screw that" and went to war
The Adam Azim fight is out there and obvious. Hope they make it in their prime. And dont fk around like they did Khan Vs Brook where they both fought but neither was in their prime. The other world champs like Hitchens, that's a very tough matchup for Smith. Not because I think Hitchen is anything special. I just dont see Smith knocking out Hitchins and I dont think he out boxes him over the distance.
But I dont think we see Smith fight the other champions to be honest, certainly not in the next 18 mths. I see Smith's team and Eddie deciding to hold the WBC belt hostage in sheffield and fight the likes of Oscar Duarte, Jack Rafferty or Rolly Romero.
Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
That was a fantastic fight, performance and victory from Dalton Smith.
Great away win and up there with the best wins from a British fighter.
The fight was action packed and both attacking hard. Smith was relentless and produced an incredible performance to stop Matais in the 5th round.

Re: Subriel Matias v Dalton Smith
That was a fun fight. In the back of my mind, I thought Matias might possibly experience an upset but in an entirely different way :-X;D. Full credit to Smith he played his strongest cards and really ended up punching thru Matias, he was fighting like he knew he belonged and it was his title to lose. Has that arcing right hand invested and can pop. But in a way I can't help but feel these two are already at where they are going, if that makes sense. Style wise it's right out front and damn entertaining but man they sponge some leather. No idea where Matias goes he really looked rough. So stiff upright and rigged at the waist.
