Interesting article on controversial fights
I just ran across an interesting article on ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=2371376
In the article, several controversial fights are discussed, including one that people have talked about here. After I read the following excerpt from the article I figured that it was worth posting the link:
"7. Sven Ottke W12 Robin Reid
Dec. 13, 2003, Nuremberg, Germany
Most neutral observers felt Reid had done enough to win the majority of the rounds and take the IBF super middleweight title back to England. The decision went to Ottke, who already was widely viewed as benefiting from hometown decisions more than most champions. But the worst performance of the night was by the referee, who ruled that a sixth-round knockdown of Ottke was a slip and who warned Reid so often for alleged infractions that, over the final third of the fight, Reid became reluctant to throw punches for fear of being disqualified."
Now I can understand how Sven Ottke ended his career having never been defeated and having won so many close decisions. It seems that corruption reared its ugly head once again.

He is German and he was boring, that is not going to get you a good press. ;)
Yes he got a few hometown decisions, but so have Americans in the USA, British in Britain, Canadians in Canada, Danes in Denm...

;DOttke v Tyson
Comeback Match!
Re: Interesting article on controversial fights
Yeah, Ottke had quit a few close calls toward the end of his career. That's why he never left home after turning pro. Of course, he did stop Anthony Mud"ane". I still chuckle about that one.

Re: Interesting article on controversial fights
if anthony mundine had a top class american trainer he would be very good,he already is pretty good actually.
Re: Interesting article on controversial fights
Chris Eubank had many contreversial decisions too
Re: Interesting article on controversial fights
I think with Eubank it was more that he was affected by the Watson incident, so he would kind of do the bare minimum to win and hold back alot.. It's not that he was given the decisions, he just made the fights way too close. Ottke just sucked and was a coward. :-X
