Cintron Estrada: FIGHT OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE!!!

Kermit Cintron vs David Estrada

I knew the only way to stop Estrada's heart was to actually stop him, but I was VERY SURPRISED at Cintron's WILL, which wasn't broken. Credit, not to his Power, which actually sustained strength througout the fight, but credit to his heart, which showed in this fight and didn't show in his fight with Margarito.

And to Estrada, who gave it his all!!! I'll say it right here, two prospect/contender fighters at crossroads, with everything to gain or lose, will be more willing to give it their all, rather than the comfortable superstars at HBO. HBO fighters love the feint more than jabs. haha HBO or Showtime won't have a fight like this, by the end of the year. No way. ;D

But yes, WASN'T THIS FIGHT AWESOME!?!

Both fighters gave it their all, credit to them, tenfold!

I agree that it was an excellent fight. I wouldn't rate it as highly as the 1st Corrales-Castillo fight though, but it will receive some attention for fight of the year. There were long periods in the last few rounds in which Cintron was just jabbing and throwing his right hand while Estrada was waiting to move inside. Estrada seemed to tire greatly in the 9th and 10th rounds though, maybe from the right hooks to the body that he had been receiving. Estrada did what Teddy Atlas said that he shouldn't do, hang around in "no man's land" on the outside, too far away to land his own punches but close enough for Cintron to land his jab.

Nice analysis and I have yet to see but for me,nothing beats Pac Morales this year so far,I mean that was a mini war between 2 countries.Pac's left V Morales right,although EVERYONE said this fight was great so I'll post again and tell you what I think when I have seen it. Are you saying it is THE fight of the year?

Yes.... but I have to go against the GREAT Teddy Atlas this time. I think Estrada had it right, up until about the 4th round, where he stopped his awkward head movement on the outside. For some reason, he started standing upright more often.

I'm just saying this, because some fighter's who are awkward can get away with things, and I think Estrada is one of them.

Dude man, you gotta see this b*dass fight! 8)

After Morales started fading, he just started fading. But in this fight, the loser just kept coming back!!! :o It seemed every time he was hurt, he WILLED his way back, and HURT CINTRON BACK! I felt like each fighter had each other on queer street over several times! :o

The more that I listen to Teddy Atlas, the more that I like him, but I don't always agree with him. He seems to constantly be making the point that tall fighters should stay outside and jab whereas shorter fighters should try to move in and fight on the inside. This is only a very general outline of what fighters should do. Some tall guys have great skills on the inside (Carlos Zarate, Diego Corrales, Julio Gonzalez, Paul Williams, etc.) and some short guys are mainly outside fighters (Pernell Whitaker, Montell Griffin, etc.). Style has something to do with it.

Cintron has only a 2" reach advantage on Estrada (if you believe what boxrec.com says) and in my opinion that's not enough to dictate whether a fighter should stay outside or try to work his way inside. It depends more on style. With a larger reach advantage, usually around 6" or more, the man with the shorter arms has to work very hard to stay outside and make it work. Estrada does have more of a swarming style than Cintron, and he got into trouble when he stopped swarming!

I know exactly what your saying. :) This is a case, where if we were trainers, we'd look at training our fighters differently. In the first three to four rounds, Estrada was making Cintron miss, causing Kermit to tire, which he did, and later on he got his second wind. I would have encouraged Estrada, that whenever he stopped on the outside, to keep that awkward movement, causing Kermit to throw, because he loves to punch every punch very hard. He's not a fast guy either, so that ups his chances of missing. Of course, this is a gamble, because Estrada can get wolloped! But Estrada has a massive chin though. As early as the fourth, I saw Estrada's headmovement diminish.
I'd also add body punishment into Estrada's game. That played a big part into Kermit's hands.

I think Cintron learned that "body punches suck" when he learned it first hand with Antonio Margarito! :D So he used it in this fight, for him.
